When I started my Vibe this morning, a big high pitch noise came from the hood and it goes away 5 secs after. I already heard this noise from 12 years old "piece of crap" car but from a bran new car, never. My gf told me the Vibe did the same yesterday after-noon.I'll call my dealer to take an appointement Anyone else had this problem?

I had the same thing happen on Tuesday morning. I hadn't plugged in the block heater Monday night, because I didn't know it was going to get so damned cold over night. It whined when I started it. I had the high pitched sound as well. After 5-10 seconds the engine warmed up a little, and it stopped. I plugged it in last night, and it started quickly and quietly this morning (same thing yesterday afternoon after being outside all day in the cold). It could just be characteristic of this engine when it is REALLY cold (we're talking below -25 C/ -13 F).Anyone else encounter this on a cold start/morning?

It was not so cold this morning (-14c). Yesterday morning, all was ok but the 1st time it happend was yesterday after-noon, when it was about -10c.Anyways, this thing should not happen at all on a new car, block heather plugged or not.

I don't think you really want to do anything about this.If you are not having any problems with your pwr steering, charging system etc. you may have to let it go.This is just a little slippage from the belts due to the extreme cold. All cars can have this happen. You may have a little condensation on the belts and pulleys, working against the stiff bearings in the accessories. It is very dry in the winter here so I don't get it very often. Once everything gets loosened up and warmed up, the noise goes away. I doubt there is anything your dealer can do unless the belt is not tensioned properly.
