Hello everyone I am obviously new here having just found this forum due to my recent problems with a new Head Unit Install.I disconnected my battery before beginning anything and I don't THINK I blew a fuse but I haven't checked or ruled that out yet. Basically after installation the new HU powered on, works great sounds great. However, I dont have illumination of anything in my center console e.g. hazard/ac/recirc/temp controls. The CIG outlet and 1.5v and AC (green circle light) all still work I just don't have "Illumination" it seems to me I forgot to wire something or didn't plug something in.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I assume that you don't have the dimmer switch set to "off".I can't remember right now what is supposed to light up and what doesn't. Seems like the switches int eh radio trim all get their own illumination wire, probably a green wire, so I don't think there is a single connection they all go through. Some of the other things that light up might not be driven from the illumination circuit coming out of the dimmer switch. Did you cut into the factory radio harness, or buy a pigtail adapter that plugs in to the factory radio harness?Looking at he wiring diagram posted in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=17816 it seems like it comes from the TAIL fuse, so make sure your tail lights still work
Thanks for the feedback!I didn't cut into the factory harness, I used a wiring kit it was all sent together from crutchfield. I just tested my tail lights and they seem to be working. One thing I wanted to ask about, on the back of the factory stereo there is the main wire harness then off to the side there is a smaller square looking wire harness and it had a single wire attached to it (currently still unattached to anything) does anyone know what that is for? Also looking at the fuse descriptions I can't really find one that relates to "Center console" any thoughts on which one it might be?These are the lights that will not Illuminate:This is not my old stereo but as an example of the port I'm referencing what is this?
If you don't need to worry about the new radio dimming, cut the orange or orange/white wires on the harness you got from crutchfield. These are the 'dimmer wires' and there are some radios that can feed back into it and screw things up.

if you just unplug the new radio and the lights work again, then you'll know it is the radio (or the new radio harness) that is causing the problem. In the fuse list, I guess the affected lights probably fall under "instrument panel lights", especially since the wiring diagram says it;'s the TAIL fuseThere is a pin out of that connector in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5396. I think it's used for systems with external CD changers, and someone also used it to hook up a bluetooth phone . Also has reverse as input for nav systemsDo the gauge lights still dim when you adjust the dimmer switch? I'd think that would all be tied together.
I appreciate your suggestions. I will check the dimmer switch and try to disconnect the HU when I get home tonight and see if the lights come on. I'll post my results here tomorrow. Thanks again!
Good news! It was indeed your original suggestion the Tail Fuse. Unfortunately I was convinced it was something with the wires so before I ever checked the fuses I took out the radio tried it, installed the old radio and tried that (stupid) and put the new radio back in and cut the orange wire none of which helped the fact that I had a blown fuse lol.I just didn't want to try to get to that dang fuse box I'm a very inflexible 6'6 and I wasn't made to bend the way I did to get to it Anyways, thank you for the support you guys are awesome.
