From about 11 oclock to 1 o clock position on the steering wheel there is a bad worn spot as if the material is starting to crack. It is only one spot. Nobody wears rings or drives with their hands on the wheel in that area. It is not the leather wheel, any chance the dealer will cover this under the 12k mile cosmetic warranty ? 2005 vibe 10k miles

you might try to get it replaced under warranty.this happened in my VW after a mechanic got in my car with his hands covered in WD40 or oil(??). they tried to clean it off and it ended up making the 'rubber' get all dry and look like it was about to crack.

i have replaced steering wheels close to end of warranty for the same problem... you need to talk nice to your SA and they will make it go away.

On a side note, mine is not doing this at all yet, but most of my cars started wearing after a few years. I was wondering how easy or hard it would be to put a new stearing wheel on. I remember seeing something about adding Cruise control and ti showed how to take off the stearing wheel, but I don't have time to look it up right now. I will check later, but if any one has done it, how easy is it?

The process as a whole would be relatively easy, but part of the process involves removing and reinstalling the SIR module, which - personally - is not something I would necessarily want to get involved with...

That's ok, Airbags scare me to begin with. I know they save lives and all, but I don't like the thought of a bag exploding in front of my face. I wear a seatbelt, to me I am safe enough, I don't need explosions to help.
