2 annoying rattles

My car has developed 2 extremely annoying rattles that have become more constant now that it is cold out. If anyone can help out I'd appreciate it. 1) Seems to be coming from down by the padals. It sounds almost as if someone is kicking my hubcap. It usually happens over bumps but this morning it would sometimes make the noise when I would touch the gas and let go.2) Is coming from somewhere on the passenger side over around the glovebox. It's more of a constant rattle that will not go away and is loud enough that even if I have the radio on I can usually still hear it. I emptied my glovebox so it's nothing I have in there. HELP!!!!

I don't feel like wasting a day at the dealer so until something major goes wrong I'm not showing my face around that place. BTW are you on Calgarypuck? Someone on there has the same avatar.

i dont blame you for not wanting to waste a day... but if you wait for something major you may never go in. they will probably just foam tape the crap out of everything anyway... but no more rattlesno im not on calgarypuck. What is that anyway? This avatar does seem to be pretty popular... Cougar Vibe has it on this site as well. As much as I love it, I think I will change it soon.

Not to sure what the 2nd one might be...but the first prob i have had.....i thought it was my gas pedal.....but i would never have guess that the noise was coming from my seat.lol......eveytime i pushed or let of the gas it would add or take off pressure on the seat and it would squeak.....managed to get rid of the sound after that.lolwell this may not be ur prob....but i hope this may help u.

For the rattle that seems to be coming from the glove box, mine (and maybe yours) is the seatbelt. When nobody is in the passanger seat and not using the seatbelt, it rattles between the center pillar and the seat. This one drives me crazy.TAzz

I have this one too. Mine happens w/ or w/out passenger. I think it's the hood prop rod--just a hunch, but my bass, air intake, exhaust and lead foot cover it up usually...

i also have the 2nd rattle and i believe its the 2 tubes under the dash as can be seen in the one pic in the link. i just dont know how to stop it cause at the moment dont have the time to take the whole dash off. you could probably wrap one of the tubeshttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9977

It's not that. I used to have that one but now religiously fix the seatbelt anytime someone gets out.

I think I solved the 2nd rattle. It seems that if I tap my power window for the passenger side to drop it down ever so slightly the rattle goes away. But then if I put it up so it's sealed tight again the rattle immediately starts up.

I had a clinging light bulb type sound in passenger seat when it was empty, dealer found loose clips then the driver seat was a squeak that happens when you bounce in the seat from bumps getting in and out etc. cold weather makes it worse. Dealer said seat rail is bad needs new seat still under warranty waiting since 11-16-06 starting to get pissed.

I can't speak to the second rattle so I won't. As for the first rattle, my Volvo had that rattle twice and it ended up being (both times) a broken strut plate (mounting location). Since you said it occurs mainly over bumps and potholes, I'd at least look over the suspension to see if you can see anything out of whack. This may be far too conservative of a guess, but better safe than sorry. I hope that you have indeed been able to isolate that rattle to the interior of the car...Good luck and let us know...

Well, a bit of an update. The first rattle seems to have gone away. It was mainly doing it when it was very cold out but now that it's back close to freezing it's gone. It appears there were 2 rattles on the passenger side. One went away by lowering the window just a hair but then I noticed that it wasn't the main rattle I've been hearing on that side. So while I was sitting idling today it started. It's usually there sometimes at idle but gets loud while I'm driving or once I hit about 2500 RPM and up. So since I was parked idling I started poking around over there and it appears that it's the door panel down by the speaker. If I touch the speaker grill or the plastic around it, it goes away or if I pull or push on the door handle it also goes away. So now I'll have to try and figure out what I can do to stop it now that I have it pinpointed.

I have noticed a rattle similar to #2; just started today. It's a regular pattern of 8-9 knocking sound coming from behind the glove compartment. I noticed that it goes away if I press the button to recirculate the air.

I have a similar rattle coming from behind the glove compartment. Mine goes away if i open the glovebox door and press down on it (while full open), with maybe 5-10 lbs of pressure with my hand. Can everyone else try this who have a 'glovebox' rattle?btw, my rattle is there whether the glovebox is empty or containing the usual stuffsylvain

So I just came back in from taking the door panel off. It turns out that it's the speaker rattling/squeaking against scosche spacer that they used. I tried to tighten it more but couldn't. When it gets warmer I may try and find a foam speaker ring or fabricate one myself and stick it in there.

The other day I tracked the rattle down to the speaker against the scosche spacer. To do this I banged on the door to see where it was coming from, located the noise to the speaker, took the speaker out and banged on the door and the noise was gone. But now that I have it back together again all is quiet. So somehow from removing the speaker and putting it back in it fixed the rattle.
