Just bought an 05 GT with 22,500 miles on it and have already put 800 miles on it. I did read up on the clutch issues and bought anyway hoping I could get lucky but it doesn't appear so. It seems the best solution is to get an aftermarket clutch. Has anyone had any warranty issues/problems with Pontiac/GM on this? I ask because I did buy a GM extended warranty (good up to 70k miles from now) and do not want any future issues.

Clutch may not be covered under warranty as after a certain amount of miles on the odo its considered a wear and tear item.However only issue warranty might have with an aftermarket clutch was if it damaged something that would have been warrantied otherwise... ie transmission or something of that nature. Otherwise there is no issues.

clutch is like brakes 1yr/20,000km so whats that 1yr/15?12?get them to install whatever clutch you want, but you are paying.you will be fine, GMPP will cover anything more then that later.

yeah GMPP was cool to work with. All you had to do was call the number, enter the VIN, enter the customer name. Then enter the failure op number for the part or repair and an automated voice says "covered" or "this is not a covered repair under their contract." that simple. No haggling with some person who's goal today is to deny every warranty claim call he gets.

Thanks, that is what I thought but wanted to see if anyone had had any warranty issues. I'm stronly leaning towards an aftermarket just to do it right and avoid all the issues everyone is having period.

Given the weakness of the stock clutch I don't think you'd have a problem going aftermarket. As for damaging the tranny, I would say it would be unlikely, as the purpose of the clutch is to allow a disconnect between the engine and transmission, hence why it is a consumable. I know some people have griped about the short life on here before (specifically because it IS expensive to replace), but I argue that its a consumable part and be thankful its the clutch and not the tranny like the 5-speeders have had problems with...
