Microsoft Zune: The next BOB!

Anybody remember Microsoft Bob? From the stuff I keep hearing about the new Zune, like this, I don't think Apple needs to worry too much about this piece of crap. The brilliant minds at Redmond have done it again. For a company with the market share, the power, and the money that Microsoft has, this seems to be a half-*bleeped* attempt at getting something that the think might compete with the iPod out the door quickly... And ignoring many important details in the process, i.e. "gee, we're sorry your new Zune that you just paid a couple hundred bucks for won't run on your new copy of Windoze Vista that you just paid a couple hundred bucks for!" If they can't make two of their new products compatible, there's a big problem! Everything from the store on down just seems like they didn't put a lot of effort into this product. I think the iPod is safe for quite some time to come.

Well I can say one thing, I have far too much invested in iTunes music to buy a Zune now. And seriously, what's with that name anyway?

Apparantly it was suppose to be the greatest hottest thing to share music with your friends but if you dl from their Zune... the song deletes after 3 days or three times playing the tune. You then have to buy it.

I know what Bob was...I actually liked Bob. LOL But then again I was 12 years old and I think it was probably much better for kids than it was adults.

Can't wait for the first MS-Zune virus to wipe out every one on the planet in a day!Another example of brilliant MS-marketing:You can't buy downloads with a credit card. You have to buy with MS points. The MS points cost 79 cents each, and you have to buy a minimum of $5 worth to get started, but the music tracks cost 99 cents each.

This one is great.. http://blogs.forbes.com/digita....htmlKostby, I'll agree that whole store concept is ridiculous... The article says it best:Quote »"To buy even a single 99-cent song from the Zune store, you have to purchase blocks of "points" from Microsoft, in increments of at least $5. You can't just click and have the 99 cents deducted from a credit card, as you can with iTunes. You must first add points to your account, then buy songs with these points. So, even if you are buying only one song, you have to allow Microsoft, one of the world's richest companies, to hold on to at least $4.01 of your money until you buy another. And the point system is deceptive. Songs are priced at 79 points, which some people might think means 79 cents. But 79 points actually cost 99 cents."Yes indeedy folks, we have a winner here for sure! Especially in that pretty turd brown color! lol

Actually other reports have said that the Zune will be compatible with Vista once Vista is released to consumers. As that's still two or so months away, I don't think that's really that big a deal. How many business users are going to care?As for everything else about the Zune..just seems like a waste of time. I'm sure people will have them, but the concepts are just flawed and an all-together poor execution.

Never plan on using an MP3 player like that anyway. So, dont really care about iPods, Zune, Bob, etc. I do know a Bob, but he's my supervisor.

Anything would be a huge improvement over iPod. We are waiting for our second replacement iPod U2 edition in under a year. They are junk. Luckily the second one failed with 2 days left in the warranty. This last one was lost on the way to Apple. The box arrived empy at the Apple facilty. Nothing was done about it for almost a month until we started making phone calls to see what was taking so long. Only then did they make a claim with UPS and agree to replace it. Not bad for a multi-billion dollar corporation.

PC World has an article on the Zune that I found to be very interesting. Seems like Microsoft has a few hardware, software, and accessibility bugs to work out if it wants to be a true challenger to the iPod.http://www.pcworld.com/article....html

That and I moved into NT premiere support pretty quickly. Was much better talking to customers who had a clue!

Just like my last post, it's not related to Zune but we just received a 30Gb video U2 edition iPod to replace the one they lost. I hope it lasts. Our's was a 20Gb non-video model.
