Newbie

After owning a cursed Ford Explorer for the past 4 years (I was rear ended 4 times in the 4 years), I'm retiring the beast. I was looking at a 2005 Toyota Matrix with just under 23,000 until a friend who works at a dealership pointed out that a brand new Vibe would be the same price and since the company I work for qualifies me for GM Supplier Discount pricing, it looks like I'll be purchasing my first brand new car later this week. Its a base model 2007, in Frosty. I'll admit that I'm nervous about buying a brand new car, just because its BRAND NEW. However, I've crunched the numbers and figure that the amount I'll save on gas will make at least 1/3, if not 1/2, of my monthly payment. But, as much as I'm nervous, I'm also excited. Any tips for a new owner? What are some of the aftermarket features that are available?

Welcome to GenVibe! The Vibe was my first new car also. I was so excited when I got it 2 years ago and I love driving it every day.Your gas mileage will be a little lower for the first 3-4000 miles then it will be up to what it is posted by Pontiac or a little higher in some cases. So don't get discouraged if your mileage is a little lower at first, it'll come around. Remember to take it easy for the first 1000 miles and and vary your speed when possible. Be sure to get your first oil change at 3000 or even sooner after breaking the engine in. After that you'll be golden! As far as aftermarket features go, it depends on what you are looking for: performance, exterior, interior, audio? Let us know what you have in mind and someone will be able to help out. GenVibe also has a great search function in the upper right corner of each page. Anything you could ask may have already been answered, check it out also. There are a ton of wonderful Vibe owners on here. We hope you enjoy your stay here at GenVibe.

Good move on that whole buying a smaller car thing. It's a good life with a small car. You'll certainly save a bundle in gas and still have something pretty comfortable to drive. And if your curse follows you, which I hope it doesn't!, the Vibe is quite a safe little car. What options are you getting? And oh yeah, welcome aboard!
