my friends and i used to be rediculous with this! our rule was you could call shotgun the minute the keys left the ignition. this could be reversed by quickly yelling "buckshot!" which means you get shotgun instead. to avoid this, you had to say "shotgun no buck". to prevent your "buckshot" from being "bucked" you had to say "buckshot no buck".

For my friends and I it was as soon as we leave what building we're in to go to a vehicle. Like the first person out the door had the first chance to say it.

when I was young. My brother and i would fight over the front seat if only one of our parents was taking us sompleace. THe "shotgun" was soon banned in our house and the rule of law was I get the Odd numbered days and my brother got the even number days to sit it hte choise seat. or whoever won the going trip the other got the return trip.

Our main and only rule (at least the only one we argued about) was that the car had to be in site when shotgun was called.... which meant usually the tallest person was always the one that got it (they could see the roof in a parking lot). But the trump to any other rule.... over all else is that the driver can over rule any shotgun, no matter what.... cuase honestly, just cause the hot girl can't call shotgun fast enough, who in thier right mind would let any one else ride next to them other than the hot girl?

I have always played it where the first mention of going somewhere even inside you can call it. ie: person 1 "Hey lets go to the mall." person 2 "Shotgun!"

when I fave played with friends, the rule was the vehicle has to be in sight. and was up for grabs anytime the vehicle was approached.
