well, he makes assumptions on the feeding rate of the subjects. Also, does he have proof that being a food source causes transmission of the condition even if the source survives the meal? Perhaps the one vampire can survive indefinitely by drawing some non-fatal amount of blood from a number of victims, and the victims only become vampires after death. Some theorize that vampires must take deliberate action to choose to turn a victim into another vampire, specifically to prevent the overpopulation and dwindling food supply cited in the "proof"Also, perhaps vampires are able to receive a tolerable sustenance from other species and only occaisionally feed on humans.Since this "scientist" can not claim to have actual vampires to study in preparing his proof that they do not exist, his proposed proof can not be confirmed scientifically, so therefore, the only remaining conclusion is that the author was himself a vampire and put forth this hand waving of numbers in order to distract van Helsing, who was becoming suspicious.
