I totally agree. That's why I'm putting in many hours doing research to pick out the best possible and my last ICE vehicle knowing that the next one after that will be electric. I'd love to have any ICE for another 10+ years while the mainstream market irons out all the kinks (battery issues, replacement issues, charging stations, long distance driving, etc)

has a few issues , minor .. i'm used to driving a prius.. so i miss the city mpg ..

I also replaced an aging Prius with the Vibe a few years ago. I loved the Prius, but I agree the looming cost of replacing the traction battery, brake booster, A/C compressor was worrisome. I'm pleased with the Vibe as its replacement--about the same cargo space, and I get low 40s mpg on the open two-lane roads I usually drive. The Prius got mid-50s mpg in the same conditions, but I enjoy its reliability for the same age and mileage. Both cars were '07, the Prius had over 180K miles when I sold it, which is what the Vibe has now. I sold the Prius for $6000, bought the Vibe for $3000. Old ICE cars are a lot more fun than old hybrids.

Thanks ! 08 . - story - was grandpas .. he bought a nissan maxima from me i was trying to sell as they were only down south for winters .. his other grandson from up north (mechanic) checked out the maxima and didnt think he should rely on it for trips around florida - so he traded in the maxima for the vibe - he also had a gm discount , pretty sure since he retired from gm. then the vibe was left with his daughter as they sold their condo and went back north to live in retirement home .. as the vibe aged, they decided it would be good to replace it with more reliable (my aunt got a subaru - and she is taking care of grandma now - retirement homes are not a very nice place from experiences we had ) .. as the prius died again , and as my aunt had been looking a while for the replacement she made her purchase and i got the vibe for real deal ...

prius is great for all the stoping, sitting idling and city driving .. that cant be beat but for reliability when they get over 130k miles esp over 160k .. - yes, i get great highway mileage with Vibe , prob better than prius at higher speeds -
but the 1.5liter prius has only about a 75-78 HP ICE - even when coupled with the electric briefly (additional 45hp) .. it just putters .. (3000+lbs without driver .)

My Prius is an 05 and i wont be getting near the $ u got for your 07 . yeah, old hybrids need the lithium pack upgrade, which they do offer , limited through 3rd party.

true , good thinking - electric is all about control - self driving 'convenience' -- and also 'self stopping' for control -- been bad ? low credit/social score rating ? control will limit your charging and/or distance ..
that is the huge push coming from white house .. they could give 2 craps about green and clean .. in fact the opposite --- electrics been around a while .. see movie "Who killed the electric car" (from the 90's !)
it's about putting u under their thumb for sure !

Given the current hyper inflation of used car prices, post that picture on your local craigslist and you'll have 30 dealership trolls all over you like flies on fly paper. One of the only times in history where you'll find yourself "in the driver's seat" when selling a used car. Something to think about. I'm trying to talk one of my friends into selling his house after a local realtor gave him a completely stupid offer that would put him on easy street for the rest of his life.

Hmmmmmm ....... :? OK, I thought about it. Keeping the Vibe for another 12,24, or whatever years, BUT seeing how I'm almost fully retired, I at least will start to drive it a bit more. Nick Hernandez (kitt222) has first dibs on it if I were to HAVE to sell it. As long as I'm around and healthy that shouldn't happen!

I'm at 217k on my 2003 GT. Just put a new transmission in, so hopefully I can get at least another 60k or so out of it, at least. (still cheaper than buying a new car)

My dark gray '06 is sitting at 116K right now, she had 86K on her when I got her - I think that was 5 years ago?

Only thing I wish I could change would be to not have the plastic cladding that they dropped in the later years. It's a pain to maintain, though I did find a really good product for that.

Turning her into a "MicroRV". Removed the rear seats, building back in a level platform at same height as standard fold-downs. Using the space under that platform as well as bins or maybe a custom cabinet on drivers side for storage of camping gear & supplies. Sleep on passenger side with head/pillow resting on folded down front seat. Comfy for me + dog. This is why I originally sold my Chevy Astro and got the Vibe, when I realized this was a possibility. Stoked to have the extra stowage, and I also have a tent that extends off the back which provides some covered space if I park for a while.

And 88k on an '03 - amazing!
I realized after putting that up that it's probably LCD not LED. Oh well.

89k is still 5.5k/yr-ish, so not super low. It's in use every single day, mostly around town to shuttle kids to/from school, library and activities (too close for bus and too far to walk) also to get groceries the occasional beer run, etc. I'd like it to last minimum 3 more years, and don't see why it wouldn't. These forums has been quite helpful in maintaining it. Still have some fixes /diagnoses in progress...
My 03 is still running, albeit with someone else (waiting for a bolt to be extracted). Rust is probably your only real enemy - that and replacing the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors. Starter motor, shocks, etc, are just sort of consumables.
Alright! So it hasn't been 3 years -- but almost. Got to all 9's on the odo a few weeks ago, now around 100.7k. (Base '03 Vibe moon+tunes)

And I don't really think I did much for fixes the last 3 years. If I recall, I changed the coolant to Toyota pink and replaced the intake manifold gasket and cleaned the throttle body... pretty much no change to the bad vibration at idle but that's as far as i got.

My current 2007 Vibe, about to be retired because it's not worth rebuilding the engine with the body damage, is still running strong at 209,751 miles.

As best as I can determine, at the back, bottom of the engine, the timing chain seal started leaking after I tried synthetic oil in it. Currently running 10w30 to slow it - still uses less than a quart every 3000 miles.

Hit a major milestone (mileagestone? milestoneage? ) today. I bought Frosty in 06 with 38k on it. I realize that 200k is trivial for some Vibers on here, but it was still pretty cool. Most miles I've ever managed to put on a car.

Haven't posted in a while. My 2008 has 238,000 miles on it with the original spark plugs, and, well the original everything really except the exhaust manifold... and tires/oil. Only had one transmission fluid drain/fill. Never changed antifreeze. Never changed brake fluid. It's never let me down since I bought it in 2012. It's like the opposite of a lemon... a cherry? Best. Purchase. Ever.

My 09 vibe has 116,000 miles on it, I bought it new. I've done all the oil changes and keep up with the maintenance. Changed anti freeze every 5 years, did a full transmission service at 75,000 miles, took the bottom pan off, replaced the little filter, took out the magnet and cleaned all metal filings (dust) off it, replaced the gasket and pan and fluid. A few weeks later I drained the fluid that would come out and refilled, in order to minimize the old fluid in the transmission (tip from some folks on here, you have been a great resource community!). I replaced struts, alternator, couple of fan belts. My son and I replaced the brake fluid one time. Mine uses oil, I check it once a month and add some most months. My wife drives it to work, 15 miles each way, stop and go traffic. The body has no dents, I still like the body style. It has always slept in the garage, and I put ceramic tint on the windows when I bought it because it sits outside all day M-F.

The car amazes me, how easily it starts, how eager it is when a light changes to green. I bought it in 08 so its 14 years old. Wife retired in a couple of months, and we plan to just keep driving it.

Houston. Glad to see you're still around and somewhat active here! :D The only thing I replaced was tires .... that's it! And they cost me NOTHING ... well no cash anyways. My son works for a specialty tire company (bulldozer, semi, off-road, etc.) and I help them out with HVAC issues, so I pretty much work for tires instead of $$$. I have several more tire changes owed to me and they want me to do MORE work. Learning to say the word "NO"

Anyways, I occasionally look over the rubber components under the hood and all seems fine so far. When it hits the 20 year mark I may pull the pin and replace everything as a precaution. Just keep an eye on things in the meantime. You have even LESS mileage on yours than what I have. Are you still on original tires?

Thank you. Since I'm going to get a coolant change this summer at the closest Toyota dealer, I might just go ahead and have hoses replaced at the same time just to be done with it.

It's hard to beat free tires! Too bad you have to work your (removed) off to get them, though. The only things I've replaced were the tires (one time only because of age) and the battery (twice). This is a great little car, as we all know. Sure wish Pontiac was still around.

Since he odometer stops at 299999 I now have 409,000 miles on mine as I keep records and I have the oil changed every 3000 miles and what’s nice. The only thing I’ve had to replace is a starter best car I’ve ever had would like to put a V-6 in it I’m still trying to figure out how to do it.

It seems like the cluster internally keeps counting, but the display never goes past 299,999. After that, most folks track mileage with one of the trip meters, keeping in mind they roll over at 10,000.

There are places that can reset/change the odometer reading, but there are laws to follow when selling the car

226k miles, had it since 164k. I could've circumnavigated the Earth about 2 1/2 times since buying it, but mostly used it to get to work. No issue in that entire span prevented me from driving it until very recently. I can't really drive it without the risk of further damage now, apart from moving it around in the yard. I hope to get that fixed in a year or two.

2006 AWD is at 234,000
has a few minor issues, but runs great

however- rust has been well established, exacerbated by exhaust leaks which is due to NY / Federal laws on AWD exhausts and thus me DIY'ing it, about 4 years ago

still, has been a worthy endeavor, I was 4th or 5th owner, and got a solid 4 years out of the car for nothing but the $300 exhaust sent from Canada, and a set of front disc brakes.

So, coming into a Vibe with 186,000mi on it, altogether the car cost me around $725/year to drive. Started 100%

I'm considering moving laterally into a 2009 FWD with 227,000, which looks like it would be a contender to hit 299,999. They're asking $2500. 227k is scary, but. If you know these cars. There's a high chance of that being actually a good buy for what it is.

I'm pretty sure on the 2nd generation Vibes, the odometer actually surpasses the dreaded 299,999 mileage and continues to accrue. Also be leery of the larger 2.4L engine as many of them burn oil. Otherwise go for it and keep us posted on what happens!

Just hit 220k mi. on our ‘06 and 115k on our ‘07. Just keep changing the oil every 5k. Anyone here running Mobil-1 0w40 Euro in their cars?

Have a 2007 all silver Vibe with the sun and sound package and 17" alloy wheels. I purchased this new in July 2007 and it currently has 109,738 miles. Also just purchased a 2008 grey with black lower trim that has 68,238 miles.
