I was comparing rates with the different car rental companies, for my upcoming trip and was a bit shocked when I saw that Avis classifies the vibe as an intermediate SUV vehicle. What are they thinking??I don't consider the vibe an SUV. If anything, I would maybe put the vibe in the intermediate car category. Then I was floored by the price. They wanted to charge $107 per day to rent the vibe. Almost $35 more per day than the premium size car. Is it just me or does anyone else find this to be strangely odd?I would never rent from Avis since they are always too high on their prices, but I always check them just for comparison.EDIT: $107 for 2 days, $59/day.

Not that I didn't believe you, but I had to see this for myself. Below is a screenshot from the Avis website:Gosh, it's almost like GM told Avis not to rent out the Vibe anymore.I had to rent a car for a couple of days last week while mine was in the body shop and Enterprise was going to rent me a Caliber for only about $25/day.

That's stupid money. For another four bucks, you can get a CTS. Vibe vs. CTS; that's a no-brainer.

Their rates are obviously based on the amount of cargo space that each car has. The Vibe could be classified as a wagon but the pricing probably wouldn't be much different.

When I was having my bumper replaced a couple of weeks ago, for rental reimbursement purposes, my insurance company (Farmer's) my insurance company insisted I had a full size car. I requested one of the Caliber's (which they call a compact) they had sitting in the back, but they insisted that I take a Grand Prix instead.

What's a Lucerne? Is it the big Buick SUV?

That's too bad Avis classifies the Vibe as an intermediate SUV. If other rental companies did the same, the following would not have happened:My wife and I discovered the Vibe when we rented an intermediate from National on our vacation to Orlando last December. Parked next to a G6 the decision to choose was a no-brainer. It swallowed a weeks' worth of bags, and equipment for our 18-month old. The baby was secured to a seat we brought from home via LATCH and the stroller stood vertical next to him in the back seat. What started out as a rental became a one week test drive. After I got home, I started researching. The more I read, the more I liked. Long story short, we picked up a new 2006 yesterday to be used when we don't need the minivan.Made us a believer!

I'm glad Avis has the Vibe priced high. Just means more low mileage used ones being sold in a few years from Avis.
