console accessory cup

I'm having a problem with the little cup that sits under the gear shift.I'm driving along, and all of a sudden, *pop* out it comes. Whatever I do, I just can't get this little guy to stay shut. The slightest amount of sideways pressure against the shift assembly (to the right of the driver) usually when I'm accelerating will knock it right out of place.I've asked the dealer if there was anything they could do, but I haven't gotten an honest answer out of them yet. It seems to be that when pressure is applied laterally, the console around the gear shift lever streches longitudinally, and the accessory cup just kind of falls out of place.I got so annoyed with the problem, I took it out and hid it under my seat. It has been there for 18+ months. This is the one I'm talking about.

I had mine replaced on my '04 under warranty. '05 and up has a redesigned clip. You can modify yours to work if you don't replace it.

I gave up on mine too. Then when I got my iPod hook up they snaked the cord out of that space, so I just leave it open and put my iPod in it when I'm driving. I decided to choose my battles.

Check Ebay or junkyards for an 05 or later under-shifter trim piece with the drawer.

I've tried "cup," "drawer," and "accessory" with no luck.. Quote, originally posted by Sunny »I had mine replaced on my '04 under warranty. '05 and up has a redesigned clip. I wonder if the 05 drawer has the same dimensions... Quote, originally posted by rebbierae »I gave up on mine too. I think I'd be afraid to lose the cable though?Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Out of site out of mind. That has pretty much been the theory so far, but I've been getting comments recently from passengers about how unfinished it looks, and all I can do is point to my EJECT button next to the radio Quote, originally posted by ajflan »They changed it? Got ours fixed at the dealer under warranty. Straight from the invoice: "Installed felt tape to the hinges per service bulletin."

I never thought I'd see a ******* child fabric like felt as a professional medium for a repair in ANY car

That's how I fixed the ones in the Vibe I used to have and the one a friend of mine had, worked out well on both. Made the operation real smooth. dampened if you will - that was cool, slowly opened and smoothly closed. Just pull the thing straight up after opening it and stick something down there, snap it back down into place and you're golden.GM must have read GenVibe on this one, since the official TSB showed to put felt on there... That's what people here came up with! Whoever's idea that was should demand royalties.

I don't use the compartment much, but what I have done is put a box of tissues in the rectangular opening in the console. The box is large enough that it puts pressure to the door to keep it closed.A standard 150 tissue box fits nicely and always comes in useful.

I mean after all, it is us who are driving the cars they design, and they would be dumb not to take advice from us. Still funny how the dealer used it though.

Oh shut up Cole. just kiddin ya know--you're just rubbing it in. Anyway, I've never lost the cable for my iPod but when they installed the Peripheral, they gave me PLENTY of extra--I could probably extend it all the way to the back seat if we pulled it out of there. So for ME that isn't a worry....

I know this is an old dead thread, but I've only had the car a few months. The felt worked great for me, just did it yesterday. Thanks genvibe.
