Looking for a special shift knob...

This is probably a lost cause, but I've seen genvibers work wonders before.I was watching these guys mod a mack truck on tv, and they were designing it like a stealth fighter jet. For the shifter, they decided to use a control stick (an actual yoke) from a real fighter aircraft. How they managed to get their hands on this, nobody knows. It looked similar in shape to the ol' Microsoft Sidewinder joystick, but metallic.Being a pilot myself, and joining the Air Force soon, I would really like to find something like this to use as a replacement shifter for the vibe. I'd be willing to pay upwards of $100 for something like this. It's that important to me. Call me crazy? Maybe.P.S. It's an 04 Base with A/T. Oh, and I don't really see the need to keep the function of the O/D button, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Let me talk to my landlord. He works on planes for a living. See if he might know how to get one. Some of the new joysticks (Cyborg) look metalic and you could easily wire up the o/d button to one of those. I'm just wondering about the shift release so you can get it out of park. I like your idea!

(removed)! A reply! Unexpected but VERY welcomed. That sounds great, I'd love to be able to actually do this. It was all becoming a silly dream for a while there Just to think, having a functional O/D button on a real control stick. The shift release would be a challenge though. Maybe cut a hole through the side and use the one from the stock shifter? Just thinking out loud...Let me know ASAP, I'd be willing to buy immediately. You never know, if he has connections he might be able to get one for each of us! Imagine, we'd be the only Vibes with yokes for shifters. And I'd be willing to guarantee that!

I finally asked my landlord the other day about getting a control stick for a shift knob. He gave me a wierd look then said to try some aviation catalogs or even check out e-bay. We live only 25min from the EAA area, he said that air shows are a good place to have a swap meet for parts. It's a start, at least.
