Steel wheel lug nuts

This is probably a realy stupid question. I have the steel wheels with the wheel covers. The lug nuts appear to have black plastic covers on them. Is this true? If so, do they need to be removed before removing the lug nuts? How are they removed?

the black lugs are what hold the wheel covers to the wheel. Yes!! lossten the black lugs then yank the whole wheel cover off then you'll see the golden colored real lugs holding your steelie to the car.

I found that the plastic "lug nuts" holding the wheel cover on were (fortunately) on Hand Tight. So removing those bolts was pretty simple.

Dear friends, I have the steel wheels and the aluminium wheels of the Pontiac Vibe 2003. I have originally the aluminium wheels in the car and then I bought the steel wheels with this covers that have black lug nuts(plastic). After putting the lug nuts from the aluminium wheels these plastic lug nuts of the wheel cover don't screw to the lug nuts of the aluminium wheels. I think it means that I should buy another set of lug nuts that I would be able to screw the plastic lug nuts and safely secure the cover to the steel wheel. It would be possible that you could give me the Toyota and Pontiac part number for these wheel lug nuts.Thank you so much,Pawkar

Dear friends, I just wanted to show you that the lug nuts of the alloy wheels, in the picture on the left, is not good for the steel wheel. And with the lug nut on the right I won't be able to screw the plastic nuts that comes with the wheel cover. I would like to know if you have the part number for Pontiac or Toyota of this particular lug nut.Thank you so much,Pawkar

They are pritty much standard on all GM cars. everything from cavaliers-sunfires-vibes ect... pritty much any steel wheel that gm manufactured.should only cost a few dollor, the altern. zips ties hope they hold up under highway speeds. Would hate to see it fly off and take out a windsheild

The vibe is not a standard GM car.Don't expect a lot of cross-compatibility - if any - between it and other GM cars.

Ok, this thread has me both confused and a bit alarmed as it's November up here and I'll be wanting to change out my tires soon. If I read this thread correct the lug nuts off my 03 Vibe w/ 16" stock wheels will not work on my 15" steel rimmed snow tires. I'll have to find different lug nuts, correct? And any GM lug nut will not work. Does anybody know what lug nut will work, so I can run over to the junkyard and get a set?

When you say 16" Stock Wheels, I'll assume they are the Steel Wheels. If so, you should have no problem with the Lug Nuts that came with your wheels. However (and I'm sure you know this) the 16" wheel covers will not fit on the 15" Steel Wheel.

Ok, these are the "16" stock rims" on my car and they do not have any covers and the lugnuts are just like to one on the left.

OK, I understand now. You have the stock 16" alloy wheels on your Vibe. And the lug nuts look like the standard Toyota issued hardware that they use on their alloy wheels. They should work fine with your 15" Steel Wheels as well. The only thing you might need is some wheel covers for the steel wheels that does not use the lug nuts as a way to fasten the wheel cover to the rim.

Yea, I got some inexpensive wheel covers and I think they'll look pretty good on the Vibe over the winter so I think I'm all set. Thanks much Ol' Timer.
