Hood Liner? Is that what it's even called?

So just before I acquired the Vibe from the parents in the chain of command my mom had an oil change. Not from my dealership (thats ok I almost never do the service on their cars) but from Mr. Lube. They screwed up. They left the oil cap off and my parents drove to Kelowna BC (6.5 hr drive) the next day unknowingly.Oil everywhere. Parents replaced the cap in BC when they noticed the smoking (first time they stopped). Mr Lube has shampooed the motor and replaced two rubber seals one at windshield and the other on the front of the hood. (swolen for oil)My problem is this, the hood liner (felt thing attached to underside of hood) is still soaked in oil.I soaked it in engine shampoo, still has oil. Have done it 3 times now and I still smell and notice oil residue after a few more days.Is anyone rolling without the seemingly pointless liner. Does anyone object to removal?I'm sure my Prelude didnt have one, but everything the family owns now has it just sitting there like a big oil sponge waiting to be filled.

I would not remove it, get Mr. Lube to replace it. It serves two purposes; reduces noise and keeps the hood from getting super hot, especially in traffic when idling for a long time. It could even cause the paint to peel. If it wasn't needed GM would not put it there adding extra weight and cost.

Always worth a shot to see if they will replace it but if not don't worry about removing it - it's there for sound deadening only.

And there's less engine noise inside than what the Vibe had. The local slimeball Kia franchise uses the insulation when equipped as a selling point, it's really funny how many times I've heard this stupid crap... "You see, when your engine catches fire, these plastic fasteners melt and this special flame retardant insulation drops down on the engine and puts the fire out." Yeah, sure thing, buddy. My first car was a fixer-upper that had a small underhood fire before I bought it, that insulation was toast - I guess it wasn't the special flame retardant stuff! CAN-AWD-VIBE, either make those numbnutz who screwed the car up replace it, or just go without...
