Vibe/Matrix fate in doubt due to planned 2008 Corolla Wagon?

Cols Dispatch 10-11-06; News article with photo of Corolla Fielder, a station wagon version of the redesigned Corolla. Sub-head said "U.S. Buyers must wait until 2008 to buy new version of world's top selling small car." Not really clear if the station wagon will be sold in the U.S. That might make the Vibe/Matrix redundant. A decade ago there was a Camry Station Wagon - only in V6. I think at one time there was also a Corolla Wagon.

There was a "compressor" model for euope only i thinkhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=22425 (about halfway down the page)The Vibe/Matrix is supposedly going to be a redesign and available as an 08 model with the partnership between Toyota & Pontiac still in effect. Only time will tell

I would imagine that they would keep the line going. In my area I see Vibes all the time and Matrix's fairly often too. That leads me to believe that sales on these cars must be pretty good. So I would think that they'd want to keep manufacturing them. But then again the auto industrys choices as of late have been pretty sketchy. As ANO_Vibe said, only time will tell . . .
