I saw this link on MO to convert the 9006 foglamp bulbs to these 9005. The idea is that the 9006 has a black cap on the top of the bulb and the 9005 does not. So the light should be brighter.Lots of those guys have done it.So I figured while I wait for the pair of new fog lamps to come in from ebay and my covers to arrive from MiVibe, I would work on this little mod, and get the lights all ready to go.heres the link... i got it from MO but its a bimmer sitehttp://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/...t.htmSo far I have two bulbs that look just like those. I did this on my PT cruiser when I had it until one blew out and it was a lease so I put the stockers back in. The 9005 is 10 watts brighter too! Great mod! I might have to do this to my Vibe and Compass now.

with your covers, my new housings, and these bulbs, will be great this winter.they are all silverstars too, so maybe til christmas anyway but they will be bright. excellent post. i'll definitely do this when the time comes. anybody know about how long the stock bulbs last??

i dont know... the lenses always break then the bulb burns out.i have never had a foglight on this car die of natural causes.They are just regular headlight bulbs so whats that a couple years if they are not Silverstars?I am still excited about this simple but seemingly effective mod. These are my favorite mods, the ones that actually do something and are cheap and easy. (Except for the new foglight housings.)CAN-AWD-VIBE

First real mod- COMPLETE- I can't count the shorty antenna or the steering wheel or front emblem sticker overlays. They don't really count to me. This still barey qualifies but it did make something better and I did have to "modify" something.swapped out the fog light housings... quite easy only a 12mm socket to remove the splash shield and a flat screwdriver to push in the clips and "pop" out it comes/Installed the new 9005 Silverstars into the new housings and popped them back in. Installed the protectors for MiVIBE.Changed out the headlights for Silverstars too and now I'm waiting on darkness to take some pics!!!Talk to you in a few hours (between intermission on the Leafs game tonight).Maybe when it's over... both my teams playing each other, gotta love that!

looks great! Do mine next!... lol I did the headlights already I just need to do the conversion on the fog lights. Had to give my wallet a break. Those lights cost about 40.bucks a pop. With the window tint. new winter floor mats (so I don't ruin the nice black vibe floormats) And building the pet barrior out of copper (man that copper is expensive now) It was time to wait.

i got my 9005 silverstars for like 20/each here in canadayou should be able to beat thatgood luck... its worth it

I sorry. I ment 40 a pop (PER SET). NOT 40.00 Per bulb. Local parts store Auto Zone was offering 5.00 back on a mail in rebate offer for the regular silverstars and 10.00 for the Ultra. I would have gotten the ultra but they didn't have it for the Vibe, so I went with the standard bulb.

I kno nothing about headights and stuff, bt would this work for the actual headlights too? or just the fogs?

The headlights are a different type of bulb (9003) which contains both high and low beam filaments. So it wouldn't work..On cars with two headlight bulbs, a 9005 is often used for high beams while the 9006 is for low beams. The fogs have 9006, this mod lets you use a higher wattage 9005 bulb.

where are the aim adjustments for the Fogs?

Aim adjustment for the fogs is on the bottom of the housing, its a plastic spinner on a metal threaded bolt, spin and it moves up or down

Sorry all, but I think this is a terrible idea.These lights are not intended for an un-tethered bulb and will likely blind other drivers. The coating on the 9006 is there for a good reason. There is no built-in light refractor/diffuser in the Vibe's fog light housing so when using a 9005 in that housing, scattered light is inevitable. You may see better (or not) but those coming toward you are likely to be blinded.

06pvibe is correct. Anyone that does this mod will note right away that in fog, snow or rain, there will be a lot more light scattered up into the drivers line of sight. That is going to completly undermine the purpose of this inclement weather light. Not only that, oncoming drivers will have a tougher time seeing. My son tried this with his Vibe fogs and had to take them back out right away. Fogs throw a wide angle, low height (low cutoff) light beam that keeps reflections down to a minimum in thick fog... heavy snow and even rain. Flick your high beams on in any fog or snow situation and you'll immediately see the problem that it causes.If you need more light to see down the road at night, add a good set of driving lights to your Vibe or get in touch with keithvibe for better head lights.

But as you'd said, the wife.....It is her ride afterall, even though I am more excited about it than she is.
