This is my first mod. I just couldn't stand that stock head unit anymore. I still have the stock speakers for now, but I'll be replacing those in the future. I chose this head unit not only for sound, but also for looks. I really like the way the red accent lights and brushed aluminum match the interior. Of course I bought it from Crutchfield. They're the best. I have to thank genvibe for all the help. I learned how to take apart the the dash and got the idea for mounting the Sirius antenna. It looks great in it's location. I never would have been brave enough to do it if I hadn't seen it posted here first. The Sirius antenna is mounted on a bracket behind the glove-box. I mounted it with Velcro, which seems to work pretty good.

How is the sound quality running the Sirius tuner through the deck?

i was looking at that deck too... i might be goin with clarion though. friend has a hook up for chaep.Nice install and professionally done

I sounds great, at least as good as it can through stock speakers. I used to have the external Audiovox XM rcvr routed through the antenna cable in the back of the stock head unit. I really had no complaints with that setup. I ran that in my Monte Carlo for about two years because that car had a better stock sound system. When I upgraded the Vibe system, I wanted everything in the head unit for a cleaner look.The guy at the local audio store this setup would keep everything digital for a better sound. The Audiovox converted the digital satellite signal to analog before it went to the head unit.

Looks nice man! Do you ever lose the signal that close to the factory antenna? I don't get the greatest signal in these parts due to local college radio...so I've been told that's the main cause. That head unit goes great with the stock trim.

I only lose reception in one place, that's a two lane country road with very thick trees. Most of my driving is on the highway with nothing to block the signal. At first I had it on my dash (just to try it out) and I lost it all the time. The college radio should not effect it. Tall buildings can block it, though, especially it tight spaces, like a city. I don't think the stock antenna is big enough to block the signal anyway. Thanks for all the compliments. I was patting myself on the back all day!

I just popped it loose at the courtesy light and dropped it down enough to get on the antenna nut with a wrench. Be careful when putting it back together, not to pinch the sat ant wire. It takes a little patience and care with a dremmel to channel out a groove in the bottom of the factory antenna for the sat ant line to fit. Then apply some clear RTV and reassemble. It's worth the extra effort because it looks so sweet. Here's a tip. Don't be a dumb-(removed) like me. Turn off the courtesy light before sticking your hands under the headliner. The bulb is exposed and it is very hot. I burned the crap out my fingers when I touched it!
