Not really, but I've found that turning off O/D on the highway right before making a pass helps a lot. Sure better than waiting for the auto slushbox to decide to downshift.

(removed)...I wouldn't turn it off over 70mph though lol...otherwise you'd be runnin close to 5 or 6 grand! pretty soon a little computer screen will pop-up and say "WARNING: DANGER TO MANIFOLD" just before you jam your finger into the second NOS button...oh wait....

I get tired of being stuck behind people that speed up when I try to pass, so I just hit the button instead of waiting for the auto to do it as I move my foot to the floor. Makes an awful amount of racket though, so I only do it when I have to.

I used to drop the GT into third. Instant lift. There used to be devices that would turn off the AC compressor automatically when you putyour foot in it.

w/ the OD off going 75 i was running about 4200 RPMs last night...I wish mine was a standard, too. But then my wife couldn't drive (wait... is that such a bad thing )
So, are there significant ill effects if you click OD button at highway speeds?

I have to assume this is not a great thing for stress on stuff.Yes?Also, is anyone using anything in the Auto Tranny OTHER than Toyota fluid ?

not using the OD makes your engine work harder by keeping it in 3rd gear. So in a sense, yes it is more stressful. But if you go to pass someone and floor it, it shifts down to 3rd anyway and once you let off it returns to 4th gear. As long as your don't have your foot on the floor all the time or drive around with the OD off it shouldn't cause any excesive wear & tear (no more than usual anyway)

your just going to quit using overdrive is all if you turn it off. will it hurt? no. cars back in the seventys never had o/d at all. "Overdrive" is the term for gear ratios that are lower than 1:1 – a situation where the engine is turning slower than the drive shaft. Overdrive gears are appropriate when very little torque is needed – the vehicle is no longer accelerating – and can deliver the best fuel economy. The six-speed transmission in the Ford Five Hundred has two overdrive gears, with a final ratio of 0.686:1.here is another thread on the topichttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15765

Because I'm trying to go 75, I get behind someone going 60-65 (and can't hold a consistent speed) so when I do go to pass I have to get up to 80 just to get around because they speed up when I try to pass.
