Weird Engine Noise

Hi Genvibe community, I love my Vibe, but want to know if you guys can help me figure out what's going on with my car. I'm hoping some Vibe enthusiast may know or have had the same problem. Underneath the hood (engine?) is making a whinning noise (sounds like a kettle boiling -- progressively gets louder) after the car is warmed up from driving. This happens when the car comes to a complete stop at like a traffic light. The sound will start getting louder and louder until I start driving again (just like a kettle boiling). It doesn't always happen but happens more in the summer than the winter. The noise does not occur while in motion, when stopped the RPM's don't move at all but the noise gets louder. If I put the car into neutral when at the complete stop sometimes this stops the noise, when I put the car back into drive the noise may or may not start again. I've tried bringing it in to the dealership more than a few times but they have no clue / seem disinterested in helping me diagnose. Thanks Genvibe. Cheers, Patrick.

Welcome to Genvibe.Could be the electric cooling fan. Does the noise start immediately if you turn on the A/C? If so, that's what it is.

It is a 2003 AWD.Nope I think the noise is independent of the AC. The noise doesn't start with AC, it can happen with AC on, off, or heat on or off.Patrick.

That almost sounds like the transmission... When the transmission pump died in my Vibe, it would whine when sitting there at a stop... Feeling any rough shifting?I hope that isn't it. Could be something like a power steering pump, alternator, A/C compressor or the like but I would think if it was that, the noise would be proportional to engine speed.I dunno, that's a strange one. Welcome, and hope that you can get it figured out.
