It Finally Happened

So here I am returning to my Satellite Vibe after renewing by vehicle plates and license. So I hit the button on my keyless remote as my other hand reaches for the car handle. I pull but the door is still locked. I push the unlock button again and still the door remains closed. Hmm, I alternately push the lock and unlock buttons on the remote while seeing if the signal lights flash when I push them. Nothing flashes, so I figure either the remote is broken or the batteries have prematurely died on me after three months. I give in and as I get ready to put my key in the lock, I notice a coke can in the center cup holder that I don't remember there earlier? It finally dawns on me that THIS IN NOT MY VIBE! My identical looking satellite vibe is parked three cars down the street. DOH! I guess I have to be more careful as this car get more and more popular. There seems to be a glut of Satellite Vibes out there. Neptune and Salsa were my first couple colour choices for my Vibe, but I jumped at an opportunity to buy a Satellite one off the lot instead of waiting 3-5 months like everyone else. Other than that, I'm going to have to personalize it a little more distinctively. The keyless remote was working flawlessly on my car. Go figure.

Well, I think that's the first story of this type. At least the owner didn't come out to see you trying to get into their car. Of course, maybe as fellow Vibe owners it would have been good for a friendly laugh. Glad to hear that your Vibe is indeed still well though.

Although there are a few Vibes in the Brampton area, there aren't many with my colour....therefore, I have been fortunate enough not to have that happen to me.......yet!

Get a personalized plate like I did. I also jumped on a satellite vibe that I only had to wait 1 month (someone cancelled their order they had waited for 3 months) for instead of ordering a Salsa like I wanted.

That happened to me the other day!!!!!!I was at the car dealer looking at cars for my husband and I tried to unlock a BRAND new vibe on the lot. I felt like an idiot. YOu would think that I would have noticed that it was MUCH cleaner than mine. But when we were there the next day, after a trip through the carwash, a couple asked to test drive my car!!!!! The salesman told them they would have to ask me, and then laughed.....it made me feel good that someone thought that my baby was brand new.....

How about wrestling in jello? Ahem! Anyway, I have yet to see another Vibe in my area more than once a month. The Matrix seems to be selling better here. Oh well. "It's good to be the King!"

funny. When my dad had a '90 Chevy fullsize he had a buddy at work that had a similar truck (I think an '89) - anyway, my dad's key opened the other truck's door! But of course, the ignition keys were different... kinda weird in any case...

I know several people who have been able to open other people's cars with their keys. In one instance a key for a Saturn opened a Toyota Corolla.

I have only seen one other Vibe like mine around town and I only seen it one time. I'm not to worried about something like this happening around here. But who knows if I am out of town or something and I run into this! I usually try to come up from behind the car and look at the license plate to get a positive ID.

I had an even more unnerving experience. I had some new bar stools in boxes in the back. While I quickly grabbed some groceries I started thinking that I hadn't locked(manual) the back hatch. As I approached the back of my Vibe my heartbeat triples as I see folded down seats with nothing on them. My life flashes before my eyes, how could I be that careless. Hey why aren't my keys working and why does that Vibe over there have my license plate. Dohh (Homer expession). Much relief.

I haven't had this happen yet to me and I doubt I will. I'm used to looking for the unique features of my cars first (wheels, tint, no roof rack bars, soon to be Ram-air hood). I got in this habit because my wife's minivan is very common. It's funny to see these problems start because the Vibe is so unique looking and new that we never had to look for unique features. There weren't that many out there so the only one in the lot must be mine. Now that the Vibe is getting more popular and more common , we need to look closer.

I have yet to see a Vibe like mine on the road. I have seen 2 or 3 others but none the same color. Regardless I still look at my wheels when walking up to my car to make sure it's mine.

I didn't buy a PT Cruiser because there were already 4 owned by other employees parking behind the building. But I was the first to get a Vibe, and thought most in my department didn't even know what a Vibe was. Today at lunch, another prof in my dept. mentions she now owns a new Vibe. Dang it! Fortunately hers is Salsa and mine is Neptune. I'm just hoping the trend stops there.By the way, she traded in a pea-green aztek for the vibe. We (at the table) all agreed she'd made a definite aesthetic move up in the world.KSNeptune

Don't think I have to worry about that happening here in Northern Colorado. I seem to be the only person within a 60 mile radius that has a Vibe. I am starting to wonder why nobody is buying them around here.

Subaru Outback's are another story. There's more Outbacks around here than Accords. I guess I should be happy that I have such a unique vehicle.(maybe Yugo owners were saying the same thing 15 years ago)
