Interesting changes after going back to the stock intake.

As most of you know I went back to my stock intake(I did leave off the snorkel). Since then I have noticed a few changes that I am really enjoying. First, the intake is much, much quieter and that god aweful sucking noise is gone! But since changing the intake, the exhaust loudness has decreased quite a bit inside the cabin. I had considered changing mufflers again because the low deep noise inside the cabin was getting to me.(I'm getting old).I know this may sound odd, but I am feeling my torque has increased since I put the stock intake back on. I know that when you install a CAI or SR you gain HP, but do you lose torque in the process? Very wierd but, hey, I'm not complaining about it at all.For a long time, I had been wanting a quieter car that still sounds like it has some power. The sound I have now is perfect, finally!

i believe you do lose low end torque on the I/E. that's why the unichip helps change the a/f so that it enables the ECU to see those changes and make adjustments. I could be wrong though, but that's what I always understood it to be.

Yes, you lose low end torque. My vibe w/ CAI and magnaflow is by far the most quiet vehicle I've owned in 13 years.

Yup, this is part of the trade off. like trdvibe said that is part of what an ECU upgrade will fix.Im still looking forward to installing mine though... I'm getting old too, but reluctantly getting old.

hte air tube that goes from the bottom front corner of the airbox, wraps around the side and front of the battery and ends next to the front grille on the drivers side.

The chips still don't get it all back but do make them more driveable. The added advance and better metering of the unichip will get some powerand throttle response back but the increased flow actually hinders cylinder fill at low RPMs and there's nothing that fixes that.

That's the tube I rerouted to run below the battery and behind the fog light... sure beats sucking in the hot air from the engine bay.---What intake did you have before? did you switch back just for a quieter ride?

I am new to this forum, and I am sure there is probably another thread elsewhere that I missed, but I was wondering...is the K&N Typhoon CAI worth the $200? I just ordered one and want my Vibe to be louder. My '95 3.4l Camaro has a CAI and I love the sound. I gained a lot of torque with it too.So does the K&N CAI make this 16-valve engine sing?
loss of lo-end

Ok, so I just installed my K&N SR intake and it is definitely louder. I found the sound I was looking for so far. Exhaust will be next.Regarding the loss of lo-end, I did notice a little with my vvti which is odd, since on my Camaro, I actually gained lo-end. Maybe the difference is the revvy-nature of the 16-valve twin cam.My shift points seemed to have changed too. I guess the computer will adapt after a few miles...
