Oh man, is that thing ever sweet!!? Too bad we'll never see it here! (MR. NEGATIVE SPEAKS.) Americans already once showed how well they like Pontiac-branded Holdens. Personally, I always thought the GTO kicked a** but few shared my enthusiasm. The gas guzzler tax and mileage on the automatics blew, but still, it was a lot of performance for the dough (since you could always get killer rebates on those.) But Pontiac didn't sell many...Now, if they dump the mainstream, FWD Grand Prix in favor of these hot RWD sedans, will people be willing to buy these? The car rocks, I love the looks - hell, I'd even take the wagon version. And it sounds like it will be insanely powerful for something you can haul the kids around in. Can this RWD monster be able to convince enough people to buy it, or does GM just need to forget about this thing and slap together another FWD car? I'd really like to see something like this car, it may even bring some new life to the division. What a concept...

I thought they were getting rid of that?

Heck, I'd buy the wagon. It would be good competition for the Magnum. I think there are plenty of people who will buy RWD, if Pontiac can keep the price reasonable.

They make some sweet cars.Someone brought a debadged Maloo with the V8 to a local car show (was still right hand drive!) It was privately owned too so it was exciting to see. It sounded amazing too. They need to start putting V8s in all American cars. That would be fun. Turbos and superchargers are fun to an extent but I'm getting sick of four cylinders and their lack of power and sound quality. Not in the newer ones but with the old V8s you could actually FEEEEL them as they drove by. That's what I want to see around here again. None of that stupid sneezing you hear coming from the Evos and stuff.

I'm with ya there, dude... No matter what kind of exhaust you try to put on a 4-cyl, it will never be throaty like a V8 will... The fours just sound like a swarm of angry bees chasing you, or sound like you just let out a really fricken big, long fart. There's no replacement for displacement. They can mod their four bangers all they want, but they will never come close to what it's like when you have 4 more cylinders.

From what I understand this Ozzie Pontiac will be called the G8 and replace the Grand Prix in the line up.

I'm sure there are many fours that will get out there and run... Hell, didn't somethig with an Ecotec set a land speed record a few years back? I was mainly saying that there are qualities of a V8 that a four simply can't emulate... The sound, the feel, stuff like that. A crapload of torque available waaaay down low, no need to wind it up to a bazillion RPM's to get anything out of it... All of that without the need of turbos or or fancy intakes or fart cans or other crap. To me, fours are more for everyday economy than manly performance. lol!

I'm not talking only about power and speed, I'm talking more about "soul". Most turbo charged cars are faster than the old school muscle but you just can't FEEEEL them like you can a 454 with some phat cams. Although my friend's uncle has a '76 Camaro with a small block pushing 700horsepower nANTURALLY ASPIRATED!!!! I can't even beleive it. It can pull the front wheels no problem...that is a force ot be recconded with. There is no naturally aspirated cars producing that kind of power.

I've had the opportunity to drive a couple tricked out "rice burners" that were alot of fun, but nothing compares to the torque that a solid V8 delivers right out of the lower r.p.m. range. I appreciate all kinds of cars. I guess I'm just old school like that. I miss my '63 Impala. I'm going to go sob in a corner someplace now.

I like all cars and have owned/driven 4, 6, & 8 cylinder engines and turbos. Nothing wrong with a 4 or a 6, turbo or supercharged and we all know they can make plenty of power! No dispute there. I agree with CP, Merz and K-nine for sure! There is just something about a V8 engine and its power as soon as it is commanded. Not to mention the abuse V8's can take. The GM small block has been around since the 1950's without interruption still used today, not many engines can contest to that! The Hemi has been around for years too and of course recently came back. There are many reasons why these engines have been around that long or have made a comeback. Sadly though if gas gets to be like overseas, i.e. charges for the engine liter size and tax, V8's will disappear again like in the 1960's. That is why my daily driver is a 4 cyl.

Ewww, if that happens I'll pick up a nice Nova with a blown 350 and do burnouts all over the capital inside and out.
