While on the airplane last weekend i found an item i want in the Sky Mall catalogits a Hand Pump Oil Extractor http://www.skymall.com/ item number: 48871G$65seems like a cleaner way to do your oil changes except for the filter portion of the change.

seems like slowly pumping out the oil from the top would leave any particles from wear settled on the bottom. I always have my engine slightly warm when I change the oil, and when I open that drain plug the old oil really streams out. I imagine that fast current tends to sweep out any crud accumulated on the bottom of the oil pan, but that could be just imagination. If not, you wouldn't get that with a hand pump. I also find that the drain plug part of an oil change is easy to do without mess, the oil filter part is messier.

I like to let it drip for for 20 min. This gets all the crud out I think. GM says 20 min is the min. time to let the pan drain anyway. I do not think you can get the sludge out with the pump.

I've had a Pella extractor for about a year now. I heard about them on the VW web site(www.tdiclub.com). It is a cleaner and just as effecient way of changing the oil. But changing the oil filter still makes a mess.
