AEM CAI Installed!

I put it in last night at about 11:00 P.M. I was finished at 12:30. Then came the test drive. If you do one thing to vibe/matrix, install a CAI. This thing is great. Blows my warm air intake out of the water!. The tires were breaking loose at lift in 1st gear! It has a lot better throttle response and you can definitely feel it on the bottom end. I'll get pics when the weather clears up. Pus, no more CEL! HOOORAYYY!!!!!

Great to hear! Just wait till you hit lift in 1st, and then shift 2 second...all without leaving lift. Oh it's a great thing, lemme tell ya...

Good job!! CAI is the way to go. And Cathy's right. Shift into 2nd and feel the tires keep on spinning. God, I live this engine!

I'm dying to get my CAI! But time - oh - not enough time to install it yet! Full-time job - full time MBA program (corporate sponsored ) - computer consulting business on the side - wife and 3 girls! Its why I enjoy this engine so much - that 10 minute commute is one big thrill, especially up and over the mountain!

I agree with Savedbyzero! If you're going to do one mod and you don't live in a place where it torrentially downpours all the time, I would get a CAI, either Injen or AEM. My AEM is great, makes power, and sounds great at WOT.

Just want to throw a question at you guys and gals with CAI. When you rev it up, then idle it back down, do you get a 'sucking' sound right before idle? Or even when you turn it off? I think this my be more like a blow, as pressure is blown out? I get this on my GA with an intake too, so I know it's normal.

I don't know about the sucking sound right before idle, but when I shut the car off, it does make that sound you're talking about. Totally normal, have heard it on dozens of cars with air intakes...

Congratulations! Sounds exciting!I am planning on an Injen CAI here. From what I understand, the AEM and the Injen intakes are very similar. So I am expecting the same kind of performance. I am really looking forward to getting mine!

And to think, the engineers probably went to great lengths during design and testing to eliminate that "sucking sound" on the stock intake!

Actually that's wrong, silverawd26. The rubber grommets are there to compensate for any twisting of the motor under hard acceleration. The older AEM intakes would break off or pull off under race conditions under hard acceleration from modified motors. The rubber grommets do nothing to quell that 'sucking sound.' I like the sound and I do agree that Toyota spent a lot of time and R&D expense to quell the induction noise down to a tolerable level and I went and screwed it up.

Maybe we're talking about different things? I'm talking about the rubber washered(sp?) bolt that helps tie down the air intake. It bolts into the side of the engine bay.

Guess I'm next. I went to AEM site. What's the part # that I should use?

Pardon my ignorance, but what does AEM CAI stand for? From the discussions here, it sounds like some kind of intake manifold modification.I have some other questions about this:1. I have too have a CEL problem and the dealer seems to be convinced that it is the onboard computer that is causing the problem. You mention that you got rid of your CEL when you installed the AEM CAI. Any idea why this would remedy the problem?2. Does installing a mod like this affect the warranty on the engine??3. Do you any idea what the percentage increase in performance is with this update? Thanks,Mike
