Crankcase Fliter and Oil Spray

On my 93 Saturn SC2, I installed an intake very similar to the K&N Typhoon SR for the Vibe. It didn't come with a crankcase filter, but I put one on and capped the hole in the intake. After a few weeks, I noticed oil residue all over the place, and the crankcase filter was the culprit. Is the Typhoon SR setup the same way, whereby there is a hose running to the intake or does the crankcase hose need to be filtered seperately? If seperately, has anyone else here had that experience with their Vibe? I'm debating if the meager HP gains from rerouting the hose to it's own filter versus the pain in the (removed) of cleaning up that garbage every month or two. Thanks!
