I know that this topic probably has been covered but I haven't seen it so here it goes. My 2006 base Vibe is closing in on 2000 miles. Should I have the oil changed at 2000 or just wait till the standard 3000? Thanks for any and all help.

I had a Malibu with the oil life system and got about 5k out of it every oil change.

i use the standard oil (non synthetic) and just do it every 3k miles, everytime i change the oil its looking pretty dark and nasty so i stick to that standard 3k miles.

I would change it now at 2000 then at every 3,000 with regular motor oil until you get to 20,000 (so everything in the engine seals up properly) and then switch to a synthetic oil and go every 5,000. It will be easier to keep track of then, when it is every 5,000 miles. (25,000 - 30,000 - 35,000 - 40,000, etc...)

BC you got synthetic now right? how is the warm up time in the winter? i hear it takes longer for synthetic running engines to heat up so the cabin stays colder longer duluth is cold!

I just switched over. So I haven't had the heat on yet. We'll see. I do have the engine block heater though if I need it.

Nothing but Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30 every 10,000 kms or so.. gets to about -35 celcius some days here in the winter.. don't know about cabin temperature but Synthetic is the way to go for cold climates.. way better on the engine, cold startups and mileage..cheers

I put Amsoil in both now that I found a local dealer, but used Mobil1 for quite a while.

I say change it out! It is the engine break in oil, the sooner it gets out the better. I change all my new cars first at 1,500 miles. And a word on waiting until 5,000 or 7,500 or any extended interval oil change. Just because a manual states the engine can go that long does not mean the oil and filter can!I recently saw a technical show on it and it amazed me!First the oil must be able to go the distance i.e. Mobil 1 has 5,000, 7,500 and full synthetic oils, the number means how long the oil will last before break down. The second factor is the filter. NOT ALL FILTERS are made to go 5,000 or 7,500 miles! BMW uses a filter that is made to go for long life and has many pleats in the paper for that reason. A normal filter cannot go for long periods and you can actually damage your engine if the filter and oil are not made to go long distances. My advice, change it out now and then buy oil and filters made to go longer periods if you want. Do your research before you buy! Otherwise do it using normal oil and filters changing it out at 3,000 miles.
