I borrowed the company digital thermometer with flexable probe Checked my A/C temp on the way home. Best I got was 42.8 deg F.I got home, opened my hood, performed the mod, got back into the car and took it for a spin and guess what???? No difference in temp. In fact, the best I got was 43.0 F. Now I will admit, the warmest it got on this little trip after the mod was about 46 F ( it got up to 48 F on the way home, but it was a few degrees warmer on the trip home than after the mod). Is this all I should expect (more stable temps) or should have seen cooler temps at the vent? Does any one else have any temp reading at the vent for their system? Is mine actually much better than most and I'm just being a crybaby? Let me know, I can handle the truth!

Are you talking about the insulation mod?

Sorry about that GMJAP, yes, the insulation mod ( I did the cable mod ....I had to move it les than an eighth of an inch)

Mine was colder on the way home fro mthe Cabela's meet. I don't know by how much but it was noticeable. ZionZR2 has temperature differences from when he did his mod. He'll probably chime in...

I didn't measure my temp before/after, but it didn't seem to make a large difference on mine. Some, but that could be placebo effect too.I also insulated my parent's Vibe, and they swore it was much better. On the other hand, I repositioned their cable at the same time...

Sounds to me that is pretty darn cool. Better than most.BTW, the AC on my Vibe is the best I have had on a car in 55 years of driving. It is cold and the vents blow it where I want.

Mine is much better now that I swapped out my black cabin air filter with a bleach white one...Anywho - I did notice a bit colder air when it was exceptionally hot or when the engine is warm...

the Cabin Air Filter is very important to cold AC. Someone at last years Ohio meet changed theirs out, and actually HAD AC again....that filter was FULL.....OT, the Colorado has the BEST AC I have ever had! I actually had a frost pattern on the passenger side window the other evening (over 90 degs outside) where my wife had move the vent to blow right on the glass instead of in her face!!

i agree, check your filter and make sure its not full of stuff. my AC insulation mod worked great!

+1 on the cabin filter change. This is one of those GM recommended changes that actually is correct. You should definitely change the filter once a year.

I will probably go get a house 3m filters and cut it to size, i think with 1 filter you get atleast 4 for the vibe

The filter is fairly new. I did the house filter cut down. I didn't like the results...too much trouble. I did get 2 filters from it. When I find a filter that gives me good results I'll post pics. One note: the filter must be very stiff on its own or have some sort of plastic or metal support...the fan is strong enough to make the filter collapse. Paper supports are not good because of the moisture issue. I will also try the cleaning of the old filter and see how that works out. If cleaning the filter works. buying an extra one and just swapping them out after cleaning seems to be the best result of all.

Wish I got 42 degrees in my PT Cruiser! The PT stops at 49 Degrees. The Vibe is cooler but how cool I do not know since the temp gauge is on my car since the AC sucks! Unless my wife complains, she is the real temp gauge in that car!

21rouge is that cat on your hood still alive? We have an indoor cat but if I found a cat on my hood, my head would explode!

I havent done the mod yet but im sure when i do it, it would help alot and hoping it does cause where i lve DAMN its hot yesterday it hit 103 man thats insain!!!, thats also because it rained the same day my street got flooded i went out for about 3 hours i got back and it looked like it never rained lol now thats hot lol

The Ac in my Vibe is not good. I can have it full blast and still blows probaly 60 degree air, even if recirc is on. I have even tried it with no cabin filter in and it still stinks. I have had it charged and it still stinks. It is all the way to cold, i have checked the temp gauge position underneath and it is ok. Oh well, just used to it by now so that is that.

What's the "cable mod" everyone is talking about?

Robdog, I would have the dealer pressure test your system. Once it is connected to the AC machine it will tell them what the current pressure is compared to what it should be. It then will tell them if the is a leak or sometimes not filled enough from the factory.

I did have a drop in temperature after this mod. THe Coldest i now read is between 40 and 42 degrees "F"The biggest diffrence was how quickly the cold air got to that temerature. ANy colder than 40 degrees and you will have a snow blower and not an A/C unit.Some have suggested the cable adjustment mod. WHich i agree should be cheched if your temp is not reach around 40 degrees. Or check your filter remember filters do restrict air flow. different filters restrict different amounts of air espescially after they get clogged with all the crud this things collect.I would say that if your a/c is blowing colder than 45 degrees than theres really not much else you are going to be able to do to improve thats as about as good as you will get and not any need for much cooler. Also check the A/c drain to make sure there are no clogs or plugs there either as this will have a impact on the efficency of the system as well. Mainly in the more humid climates.If someone who knows where that drain is actually located can chime in; so we check for plugs or selfs.

Now I remove the cable, tightly close the damper and insert a screw in the damper arm to hold it in place. This just takes a minute to do. The cable connection holddown to the damper is pretty cheesy, you may be able to epoxy it in place instead of using a screw for a more permanet fix.
