I am now officially a Cornhusker... wait, screw that. Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye. Moved last weekend from Iowa City to Omaha and finally got all of my crap hooked-up. No internet for almost a week!!!!!!I rented a 10' U-haul, but instead I got a 26' because that was all they had available to go one-way. At least I got it for the 10' price though. And it also cost me $125 in gas to drive 250 miles. I bought a couch at the Nebraska Furniture Mart for pretty cheap, but it wouldn't fit into my apartment because of the design of the entrance way. There is a wall about three feet on the other side of the door and the delivery guys couldn't tip it anyway to get it to fit. I do have a balcony, but I am on the third floor so they wanted to winch it up. I told them just to take it back because someday I am going to move and I have to be able to get it out of there somehow. So now I will have to buy a futon, and hopefully that will fit. If not then maybe some metal folding chairs. Now I have to drive back and forth every weekend (4 hours) for softball tournament, class reunion. By that time I will have put on about 2,500 miles on my car in one month. That is all that I put on last year! Now its time for a job hunt this week.

Wow! Congrats on the new digs! And you even found time to make it to the Cabela's meet! Futon's rock by the way. You shouldn't have a problem getting one of those in your new place.

I am just hoping that I can get the Hawks football game on TV this year. The Big Ten is supposed to have some sort of contract with ESPN to televise games. I know the Iowa/Ohio St. game will definitely be on. No tangible job prospects, but I got the Sunday paper so the rest of my week will be filled with that stuff.I went to "The Mart" to get my futon and the only one they had is stock was $400 not including the mattress. A little out of my price range so I got one that should be here next week for $280 and a high quality mattress. Looks like I will have to sit in my chair for a little while longer. The funny thing is my futon will be ten times better than the bed I sleep on now. But that is the way it will have to be for now, I am tired of spending money. I also just bought a gas grill (my first one ever) but I am afraid to light it cause I might 'splode. It was a floor model at Target. I checked all of the bolts to make sure they were tight and on properly. I should have my courage built up for tommorrow night. If I don't post on this site ever again, you know what happened.

Try Wal-Mart...this time of year they have a wide selection of futons, including really nice ones with wood frames and love-seat style ones with arms that fold up instead of a back that folds down, etc. Good luck with your job hunt!

I when I moved and went from an electric stove to a gas stove you had to light with a lighter, I was scared that I was going to blow the house. Now I have a gas electric that when you turn the button the burner lights up automatically. I've come a long way and now I'm don't even think twice about lighting the gas stove.Once you get used to lighting the gas grill, it won't be a big deal anymore. Congrats on the move, the futon, and the grill.

Well I didn't die. The pork chops were excellent, but I burned the potatoes a little bit on the bottom. Guess I need to let them cook on the upper rack instead of the lower.I just got a job at Oriental Trading Company as an order picker. Not sure what the pay is, but it is probably low because they have a production bonus. But a job is a job, for now. Now I can look for something else without feeling rushed. Don't even know what shift it is. Hopefully it is second. Don't much care to go to work at 6:30am. I'd have to go to bed at like 9:00.

Hey, congratulations! I know it isn't what you want to do, but until you become a celebrity and that swimsuit contest comes to Omaha, at least this is a steady paycheck! I knew you'd wow 'em in the interview!

Oh yeah some interview. I took a placement test designed for a 10 year old, then was asked a couple of questions about something I read for a job I wasn't even offered. Something tells me the hiring standards are about as rigorous as a security guard for a hospital. Do you have at least one working arm and leg? Can you dress yourself in the morning? Can you form a complete sentence without drooling on yourself? Your Hired!!!And I looked at a full sized complete memory foam mattress in another futon shop in Iowa City, and they wanted like $450 dollars for it. I got the best mattress that the Furniture Mart had at $250 so that should be good enough. But thanks for the idea. I am more concerned with it flattening out after 6 months of use. But the guy said is wouldn't. Not sure if he was just saying that or not.

Hope all goes well in Omaha. Sometimes I miss living in NE. It's so much more laid back than out here in Denver (not to mention cheaper). Think my blood pressure drops about 50 points when I go back to visit my relatives.

Ok so I had my first orientation class for Oriental Trading Company. Why must their be so many retards in the world. I wasn't really expecting much in the first place, but I had some REALLY annoying people in with me. That class had about 20 to 25 people in it. They went over the usual, sick days, pay schedule, safety tips, ect. Why must their be those chosen few who ask every stupid question in the book. Stuff that the trainer just got done saying. Why must their be those people who draw out class by asking a question that has little or know chance of happening ever. Or have absolutely no bearing on what is being discussed at the time, or will be gotten to in another section. Some of my favorites from last night include...What happens if their is a tornado warning five minutes before our shift ends? What the crap kind of question is that?! You will go to the gorram tornado shelter you retard!!!! What the hell do you think! OTC ain't gonna let you go home if it isn't safe.Do the girls have to wear shorts that long? That isn't in style, nobody wears stuff like that anymore. (Asked by a girl)What does this look like, a strip club? If you wanna wear that stuff go work at one. This is a hot, dirty warehouse where you will be bending over a lot. Wear something comfortable and professional. I like looking at a hot girl in tight dukes as much as the next man, but not you.Where do we go to get our paychecks?Mind you we haven't even gotten to this part yet. We were talking about sick time and calling in.That brand of knife sucks, is it okay to buy a different type? This was asked literally two seconds after the trainer said and I quote "These two knives are the only kind that you can use at OTC, any other knife that you use or bring will be considered a weapon."There had to have been at least a hundred questions like this during the 6 hours we were in orientation. Most of them asked by the same three people. It has been a very long time since I have wanted to stand up and yell "Shut up, listen to the trainer, all of your stupid incoherent questions will probably be answered if you listen for five rutting minutes!!!" Thankfully we start job shadowing today or else I would have to kill some folks.

Brad, you always make my day. That was hilarious! I've been in a few situations like that too, and it IS always the same few people that ask ALL the stupid questions! You will have to let us know if those three people are still there in 2 months!

Well I just recieved my futon from "The Mart" that I ordered from them almost a month ago. About gorram time!!!! And I just started a different job on Tuesday at a different company called Lozier. I will be in the distribution center as a shipper. Not entirely sure what that entails yet as I am still doing orientation. But anything has to be better than OTC, and I get $4.00 an hour more and I get to be back on a forklift. Yay!Lozier makes and ships racking and display shelving for places like Target, Wal-Mart, Autozone, Office Depot, ect. They have very good benefits like free health insurance and tuition reimbursement. The only problem is that I got stuck on 2nd shift again. I think I will have to buy a TiVo or something before my VCR wears out. And my Sister and her husband are off to China tomorrow for two weeks so I get to house and dog sit for them. Which kinda sucks because her dogs are a HANDFULL!!! And I will probably miss my highschool reunion because I may not be up to traveling back to Iowa alone with the both of them. Oh well there is always the 20 year.
