hi guys am still relativly new to the whole vibe world. as said before am intrested in buying a gt, but all the comments have heard so far is about how bad the clutchs are on these cars. how much are you looking at spending if one goes wrong, have only been living in the states for a year now(from england)and not to familiar with any independant garages around my area.am looking for a 2003 model what if i find one and the clutch is on its way outmany thanks guys

test drive the 5 speed. Then you should be able to determine if you really want the GT or would be as happy with the 1zz engine.

Welcome to the site! I cannot comment since I have an auto but if you really want a manual make sure it is checked by a clutch mechanic. When you downshift, it should grab the gear almost instantaneously and not take a few seconds. If it does not, the clutch is slipping. Hopefully others will chime in and give you costs on the repair if they have had it done...

if you plan on modding your car with some performance parts, then the clutch would be one of the first performance parts to put in. After a nice clutch and short shifter is in there i hear they feel really nice.

No. Do not let the problems with the clutch deter you from buying such a great car. Like others have said though, make sure you get it checked out before you purchase it. And if you do have to replace the clutch, it's around $400 or so. Which really isn't all that bad.It will also feel amazing once you do what Northvibe said. Short-shifter and performance clutch are two parts that are definately worth the $$.

The GT is great, and it's probably a low percentage of us that've actually had issues with the clutch. (Yes, i'm one of them)We just whine the loudest.

I have over 62k miles on my stock GT clutch and it is still strong. 28k miles on an 03 is low. I'd definitely look into getting that GT. Check out the clutch and even if it does need replacement, ~$400-500 wouldn't be too bad, especially if you could negotiate into the deal.

There is a dealer up my way that has one and will give you a sweet deal on an '04 six speed if you are willing to drive this far north.
