I know I don't post here often, but I thought some of you would like this. The Tesla.Designed by the same dude that did the Lotus Elipse, and it shows. From what I understand they'll start ~$88k though. Way out of my budget.

Great find. Finally an electric car that doesn't look like an electric. I'll take mine in either racing green or orange please.

I'm not sure I could find a line on that car that I didn't like. AWESOME. Gorgeous car and very quick. Read into the site about when someone asks "how fast is this thing." Very Cool.

That is a really slick ride! Expensive as hell though... Quote »For customers who are still interested in purchasing a Tesla Roadster outside of those areas, we will be happy to sell you a vehicle but we will charge a $10,000 out-of-service-area premium to cover our costs for transportation of the vehicle to the nearest Tesla Motors Customer Care Center or any other related servicing expenses.Holy crap, you can buy a Kia Rio with the money they're charging for the fee alone for those far away from their distribution centers, and maybe have a couple bucks back in change. But at least it sounds like they'll take care of you when you have problems, it would cost a pretty penny to get the thing towed 500 miles or whatever to get it worked on. Probably wouldn't take too many trips in for service before it hits $10K. This is a really cool car though. And yep, finally, something electric that doesn't look like it has just been beamed down from the mothership. I just hope this one survives, seeing that it is coming from an independent company it may just do that. Unlike GM that chose to "pull the plug" on their EV1 a few years back, reclaimed them from those who had leased them, and destroyed the cars. Hopefully big business and big oil won't destroy this kickass ride.

If FORD were smart (BIG assumption) they'd license the design, put a 2 L 4 banger in it, and sell it for $19,999. If FORD had been smart, they would have built their retro T-Bird with a 2 L 4 banger and sold it for $19,999.

the tesla CEO was on the radio the other day, and he said they were aiming for $50,000 for the second generation tesla.that's a little better. you'd not only save on gas, but you'd have no oil changes (but you'd have battery replacement after 125k miles), and an electric engine should last way longer than a combustion engine.

What does ford have to do with this? and why would they put a >200hp engine in a heavy coupe? as for the second gen for 50k? that would be sweettt!! Electric engines have TONS of torq from a stop, oh baby....imaging autoX'ing in that baby. Now we just need parking lots with plugings

But as the technology improves and it becomes more cost effective to produce, the average folk like us may be able to experience it eventually...

All I want is an electric car that that covers my daily commute. I drive less than 35 miles per day (typically) and a range of 50-60 miles would suit me well. This is certainly achievable with current technology using simple lead acid or NiMH batteries. I'd pay $25k for a Corolla sized car that could do this. I'd keep my Vibe as a backup for long trips and would only have to fill it up twice a year. If I can remember to plug my cell phone in overnight, I could do the same with a car. If you ask me, this is a solution to our "oil addiction" until better technology evolves.

looks like they sold out of the 2007's, but they are taking orders on 2008's now.$92,000 base price.i saw another electric car in development last night on pbs. 0-60mph in 3 seconds. it raced a ferrari and smoked it.could start production soon.http://www.wrightspeed.com/index.htmlso small companies are starting to build them. looks promising.chevy volt looks promising also.
