ONLY $27,900 fr a 3 cyl 2 seater with no utilitarian features other than you can fit it into a small parking spot. Looks like a death trap to me.

I saw a bunch of these up in Toronto last month. I want one of these. Tho I'll bet they are tricky in our MN winters.

WWWWAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY overpriced! I wouldn't mind having 1 if they were like $10k or so, I think they are pretty cool looking and very economical.

They've had these up in Italy for at least 3 years now.You may change your mind of getting one if you ever see the movie "Just Married".Too small and too pricey imo.

why the hell would someone spend almost 30k for that? sure, it's cool looking and gets pretty good mpg, but what is the incentive? there are bigger cars that can pull close to that for less money.

It's pretty cool and all, but in order for large amounts of people to buy these things, they have got to bring that price down.

Oh - this is probably a dealer trying to cash in on the latest fad - like when the $18,000 PT Cruisers were selling for $25,000.

http://www.theautochannel.com/....htmlThe above press release says the Smart Car is coming to the US in 2008 so these are probably being sold by independent importers. Wonder how they get them into the U.S. as most offshore cars not intended for the U.S. do not meet all of our safety and emissions rules.

my neighbour has 2 of them (one is a convertible..awesome!) and he can park them behind each other in his garage! He has a double garage so both his cars take up one spot and the other is open for his workshop.Really cool!

that would be good for a sunny state for someone living in the city, but i wanna see a crash test of it getting T boned....cuz that is a different story than a head on or a half head on test.

But their website says 135 MPG equivalent. I'm guessing that it's based on the cost equivalance to a gasoline vehicle getting that kind of mileage.

so it prolly gets 200 miles per charge

Why do you think a lot of new cars have "crumple zones" Yes its great that the passanger compartment was intact but the whole dang car is the passanger compartment. I would hate to have been inside that car after hitting the wall. I mean what in that car absorbed the impact? I recall that in the early ages of cars, manufacurers built cars to withstand damage. Basically when the car got into an accident there was very little damage...though they quickly learned that that often ment the passangers inside did not survive. The energy of a crash has to go someplace and if the entire frame of the car is intact...Id hate to be in the car.

I agree with you on the crumple zone.. but the frame is meant to be solid so that it doesn't crushes the passengers .. but the point is that people fear that the car will get crushed... and under severe tests it doesn't.. its a actually a VERY SAFE vehicle... though I wouldn't want to be inside one in a 70mph car crash also

they even said in the vid that a human would prolly die because your internal organs could not handle the impact of 70 to a dead stop. Also it looked like the drivers legs would be just gone. The crumple zone should be your trunk and engine compartment....2 things the smart car doesnt have....

Well when I speak of crumple zones, I speaking of the newer and designed cars that recieve high crash test ratings. They basically design the car so in the case of a offset headon collision(most likely to happen) the car's main("crew") compartment will remain intact and the crumple zones are the front and sides. Basically upon impact the energy is absorbed by the outer frame of the car as it "crumples" around the passenger compartment. Something that the smart car has very little of. Yea it was "cool" to see that little car survive the impact but it tells me nothing about how safe it would have been to actually be inside that car during impact. Not trying to say the car isnt safe...just dont watch that video and think that you would survive a 70mph headon collision with that little car based off that video.....

I sure want one. saw a lot of them in Toronto and MTL when I was in canada earlier this month. The ideal down town car... just not a lot of room to store stuff. And the price doesn't surprise me... look who makes it.
