So a good friend of mine told me a house near his just went up for sale and its been redone after some damage from a tornado that hit months ago. I had the house checked out and was told everything looked great and that the house was a steal at the listed price so I checked my balance in the bank, and got a small loan for what I didn't have put back and I got me a house. :D I think this is so much better of an investement than a new car. I got a 4 bedroom, 3 bath for $65,000 and just 2 blocks away from the school in this town and only 2 houses down from my best friend. For that price everyone I talked to for advise and to help check out the house to make sure nothing was wrong with it said that was a steal. Gotta love small towns.

good deal! If you looked hard around here, you might be able to find a $65K house that has a roof

That is a great deal. You could probably get yourself a small Uni-bomber style shack here in Iowa City for that much. The house you are describing would probably run about $250,000 in my neighborhood.

feels freakin great to have my own house. I had to move back home after my car accident and was living in an apartment but even what he was wanting to rent this house out at was cheaper than an apartment too. It said rent for $500/mo or sale for $70,000 and I knocked him down to $65,000

I'm jealous. Where do you live? Out in California you can't even buy a trailer for $65k. A friend of mine just bought a 47 year old 4bd, 2 bath house for $250k...rediculous.

isn't the small town property great? the house drunkengirlfriend and i live in was only around 60k and it's a 4 bedroom/2bath with a big kitchen and a living room and dining room. not to mention 10 ft ceilings, a full basement and 2 stained glass windows! it's not in perfect condition, but hell!congrats man!

Yea man its great. This house isn't in 100% remarcable condition, but thats the fun part. This house has a full cement cellar that is 60% of the length of the house. I want to but a bar down there and make it a poker room. Its got a 2 car garage that is seperate from the house and another decent size tool shed behind the house. The back yard extends all the way to the next street behind the house since there are no houses on the back side because Saac River runs through there. So I can even almost fish in my back yard. :D

definitely sweet man! i don't have a garage!having your own place rocks, you can take pride in it and make it your own. landscaping can be a great thing to do when you are bored and have a few beers to go along with it. i love getting a buzz, digging holes, and planting crap in the ground!

Congratulations! After all the!$#^ you've been through in this past year, it seems like things are looking up for you.To be able to own a home at your age is quite an achievement, regardless of whether you're in a small town or not. I wish you luck as a new homeowner! Just remember, mods to a home aren't nearly as fun as mods on a car!

Awesome! Congrats on the purchase. You can't find much in northern VA for less than $200k. Small one bedroom condos start in the mid $200s!! That's awesome you can get a house for so cheap. The average price for a home around here is around $550k. It is insane.

Yea not as fun as modding a car, but alot changed after I started dating a girl with a kid, so now the 2 seater car si out of the question, and I have my SS paid off so I figured its time to set down and get my life moving in the appropriate direction. Maybe after I turn 25 and see if this relationship goes anywhere..then I'll get a car that I can mod out and maybe gas will be $10 a gallon by then to deter me away again.

Congrats on the new home sounds like you got a real steal on the house. What you have done is started a very good savings plan for your self. You'll get back every nickel you put into your place plus interest. Unless you go crazy and remodel the whole place. We all love pic's, maybe you could show off your place with a few.

Congrats on the new house! By contrast, the lady and I close on a house at the end of the month here in Tempe, AZ. Mine is 30 yrs old, sits in a 5th of an acre with a pool, has 3 bd, 2 ba, 2cg and cost $275k - that's talked down $30k from his asking price. AND the seller is paying our closing costs. But I could have bought a house for $65k I would've snatched it up. In Phoenix metro, you can't buy a house for less than $200k unless its an hour away commute wise...or it has HOA fees in the $150s/mo...

I'll def get some pictures when I get moved in. I plan to move in August 1st after I have some things done. The floors are hardwood under the carpet so in a couple rooms I'm having the carpet pulled and the floors buffed and the master bedroom is pink wallpaper and purple flowers....that is not staying...lol.

Hey, Willard! Suburban Springfield! Plus, the odds of this house ever being damaged by a tornado again are about a billion to one.

Sadly I wouldn't say that. Springfield/Nixa/Stockton area's have been hit with alot of tornado's in the last couple years. Though with the fact we haven't had a decent rain since March that chance may be accurate.

that's great. congrats on the new pad.i think here in austin that for $65k you can sniff the grass on an empty lot, maybe roll around in it a little.
