03 gt is getting check engine light. took it to autozone and had them read it with their device. says "evap" which is the gas cap. Had them clear it, it undid the gas cap and affixed it correctly. All was fine, got gas again saturday, drove it sat night and sunday with no issues. Monday it came on again. Should I just get a new gas cap? And will the CEL go off over time if this corrects the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Do you remember the actual code (Should be a P followed by four digits) ?

That happened to a pard that has a 98 corola. it cost him big $$ to get it fixed. He tried the new gas cap first though. he got one at auto zone. turned out his canister needed replaced.

My 04 Base has a permament CEL. It came on 3 weeks after I bought it used in March. I bought a ScanGuage for it so I just clear it as soon as it comes on. It happens at almost exactly 7 day intervals. The codes are always the same: P440, 441 and 446. They say the Toyota evap/emissions are so complex even the shops don't like to work on them. I know the used-car dealer didn't have any idea what to do with it, and for the good deal I got on it I just left them alone. I consider all Toyota's to come with a CEL as standard equipment, I'll think real hard before buying another one.
