i have the autoshield extended waranty and i just fininshed reading the fine print. "do-it yourself maintence/repairs not permitted" Am i destined to going to the dealer/quick lube for any oil changes/maintence???? this stinks!!!!!! dealer just sent me a nice book for crazy maintence program with oil changes every 5000km.(even though i argue that i should be on the longtrip highway maint schedule since i travel 50km a day to/from work) what a waste of cash!!!!! im probably going to pay the 34 buck to get the dealer to change my oil, then , go home drain it out and throw mobil one in. i can just imagine the bulk cheap crap oil that the dealer is using, for all i know it could be the oil from the burger joint accross the street.

Don't "imagine" what the dealer will put in. . . Ask them. If you don't like their choice, simply take the Mobil one with you and ask them to use it instead. Heck, they might even discount the $34 for the price of their oil you won't be using.Dealers really don't have a good motive to screw you when doing service work under warranty. If they screw it up, they have to fix it. If you complain, they have to deal with you. They "make" you have service work done there simply to verify that all he work is done. Doing all the work per their schedule will probably result in your car lasting 200,000 miles. It might not, but many do when carefully maintained. If you think you were tricked by the fine print, I suggest reading that fine print BEFORE you sign next time.KSNeptune

You can do your own work as long as you keep receipts for the oil and filter purchase. Just write the mileage on each receipt. I would dare a dealer to take me to court on that one. Those 'planned maintenance' packages that the dealer sends you are overkill. You'll end up paying more for maintenance than you paid for the car itself. It's planned prosperity for the dealer. If you want to do your own oil/lube/filter with synthetic oil, you're miles ahead already. Nobody can force you to buy their service. Maybe call the warranty service provider and explain your intentions to change your own oil, using synthetic. They should agree.

If you don't like the warranty you can call them and cancel it. they will send you your money back.( cost on the warranty was probably half of what you paid for it. So, if you do cancel it you will probably only get half waht you paid.
