Cell Phone Question: LG 8300--HELP!

I'm not a huge 'techie'. I just got the new LG 8300 cell phone and I just want a certain song to play when it rings. The phone is so new that there is hardly anything available on GetItNow, so I'd like to just put my own music on it but have NO idea how. Does anyone here have any tips for me? My phone is also an mp3 player, but I don't really plan on using it for that--I figure if I want to listen to music that's what my iPod is for. Thanks!

do a search for ringtones available through your carrier, there should be plenty. also, if your phone has internet capabilities, your browser should have a section to browse ringtones.

If you are attempting to add one of your own mp3s (without buying it from your provider), then I'm sad to say you probably can't do so. Most of the phone companies have the phones programmed such that you can only get content on it by paying for it from them. There are phone hacks if you want, but Verizon and Alltel insist that any reprogramming of the phone will void the warranty unless they do it. This is especially true for any bluetooth enabled phone...

the verizon razr actually has a usb port to do such things! also, if the phone has some sort of music composer, you can find the keys to press to recreate many popular songs.

So I go into my GetItNow and the only options I have are Sony Music Box, and some Univision latin thing, and neither one of them have the songs I WANT. So I'm basically screwed huh?

I don't know why they wouldn't work on your phone if they work on any of the others that have MP3 playback. Maybe its because of the area you are in? It seems strange that GetitNow would only offer certain ringtone options like that.

Well, unless I'm doing it wrong. I'm going to verizonwireless.com and looking, and when I put in my model number, Verizon tells me there's nothing available. So when I go to getitnow on my phone, those are the only two options I have.

try doing a google for 3rd parties that may provide ringtones.

Ok Joat, pardon my stupidity, but if I get that cable (Jim might have one actually) then how do I get ringtones?

I did that on my VX4400 The software had a utility to convert mp3s or wavs to whatever format the phone needed, then copied the tones to the phone. my phone isn't a cameraphone, but it looks like yours is. A data cable should also let you take pics and then transfer then directly to your pc, instead of whatever method the phone comes with.but I don;t have a vx8300, so I can't say exactly how to do it. Here is a link with different advice (see top of the page)http://howardforums.com/showth...52683

I'd do some reading here - you should be able to find phone specific information: http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51

Ok, thanks guys--I'll have to read into that when I'm at home and have more time to mess around with it. Hopefully I can figure it all out!
