Dirty Headlight

I know with all the plastic headlight covers, they all get kind of ruined. Well, mine haven't gotten hazed or anything gross from the inside, but I can tell the previous owner did some good highway driving. There is just a lot of little chips or dent/scratch type things. When I look with the light on, I can see it. It just kind of comes up a little dirty looking. Is there a product to kind of take out these scratches and what not? I have seen one, and I tried it on my previous Saab that had marks from the headlight wipers, but it didn't work too well. Maybe I will try it on this. Anywayz, any advice?

I use some good ol elbow grease and window spray cleaner I bought over the counter at GM... some acdelco brand. Works wonders on the fog lamps to.

Thanks. Yeah for some reason I thought maybe some rubbing alcohol, something to get out the gross stuff. Thank you though!

Thanks! Thats something like what I tried, but it wasn't as technical. I might have to try it.

Meguiar's PlastX works well.

Can you take a picture of your headlights. PlastX by hand works, but if you use it on a foam buff pad on a orbital polisher the results are much better with 2 or 3 applications. If they are really bad, you can do what I've posted here before about, get some 2000 grit wetsandpaper, and scrub it up, smooth it out, then use PlastX to clean up. Haze will be gone!

The toyo dealership locally offers something similar to the kit above and they do it for you for like $45.

a kit? $45. A pack of sandpaper is like $2-3. It's not hard to get done, just takes times and little know how.

Ok, I will tackle this project on Sunday and take before and after pics. I plan on using 1000,1500,2000 and 2500 sandpaper. After I am done wetsanding, what is the best to use for polishing?

I wouldn't sand it... get some Novus plastic polish and maybe a mini "powerball" and go to town.... profit..

There would be no profit, I checked the site you posted on the other thread, and the Novus is $30 for the 8oz kit.

wetsanding is safe, and I would use the PlastX afterwards several times over. One thing to remember is to start with the lightest wet sanding which would be the 2500 and see how clear it makes it. Then work your way to a harsher product. No sense in creating extra work.http://www.meguiarsonline.com

I have the foam applicators, but if the power ball will work, I can use my drill. Also should I use some #10 Plastic Polish after I use the Plastx?

I should probably clean my lenses as well. After almost 4 years of driving, they are starting to show the wear.
