Welcome to GenVibe!According to Google: Check out
http://www.CarBuyingTips.com and read the seven chapters on how to buy a new car. According to Chapter 3 the LAM is mostly likely "Local Area Marketing."

Thats exactly it....it's a so-called voluntary thing, but most dealers who aren't in the LAM don't get extra product, or choice product.

I never understood that it was "voluntary". Seems to me that if it was voluntary and participation was required to get allocation of "choice " product there would be antitrust concerns. In any event, it appears that virtually 100% of dealers are in the LAM programs and it is a real charge that they pay to the Manufacturer so it is past of the invoice plus" pricing. Perhaps 10 years ago Toyota got sued (class action) becasue they were refunding LAM charges that went unspent. The suit claimed that this made the advertising of "invoice plus $xxx" somehow misleading because the LAM fee(s) on the invoice were more than the actual LAM fees.
