Anyone here a Locksmith?

Here is my issue... I bought an old parking meter $10 and I want to try getting it to work. It has no keys and the locks would need to be picked or drilled. I already took it to my local shop and they said we could drill them but not pick and do not know of a replacement lock to install... I do not mind the drilling IF a new lock could be installed at least on the mechanism portion. I do not care to replace the coin box lock if drilled out. I am in Oakland county Michigan and within the Rochester Hills and even Warren limits.

The coin box lock is one of those round vending machine type locks. The other is a standard key type and I was not impressed to hear the Locksmith say he could not even pic that one! Arggg.... Maybe there is some dumb law on this issue... I dunno.... (PS, there is no money in the coin box and no identification of where it came from)

Do you have parking meters where you live? I mean, maybe there's some universal parking meter key that works on all of them. Go talk to one of the City Boys...

http://www.snopes.com/crime/wa...e.aspGreat suggestion and I tried it last night. The bad part is the inner diameter of the BIC needed to be a little larger in order to actually be inserted! Darn!

I have an old parking meter at my house too. It's red, white and blue, and was last used somewhere in OH in 1976. The coin-box lock was drilled and removed, but I've never gotten to the mechanism. It takes pennies, nickles or dimes, and count count perfectly.

Sounds like a good one! I am originally from Ohio...I have come to my senses and if I cannot open mine I will just mount it to the wall in front of my car and call it a day. Why spend lots on a $10 meter.
