We got a new vibe in Jan. 1.8 and a 5 speed. We really like the car over all my only beef is the clutch and gear box. My 1990 VW clutch was much nicer and today I took out my friends new Mazda 3 hatch and its clutch is much nicer too. Is it just me or do others find the clutch is not very "forgiving"???

Was it any different than the Vibe that you test drove before buying? If so, then maybe your clutch has a problem. If it is the same, or if you did not test drive a manual transmission Vibe, then maybe you have learned a lesson about car buying.

actually its the clutch and gearbox. its not the greatest of clutches.... i was sooo close to buying a 05 civic, damn credit score! and the clutch in that was a dream, smooth shifting and i didnt grind or anything. but i do every now and then in the vibe. something about the clutch is off.I wanna get a racing clutch down the road but my budgets gotta catch up with the mods that are out there.

Out of all the brands I drove I found the toyota corolla and Matrix/Vibe clutchs to be the least forgiving. Takes a bit of getting used to but one can live with it. I was willing to "live" with the clutch gear box because I like the rest of the car so much more than the others in its class. Just wondering what others thought and it seems I'm not alone!

Uh-oh, does this also applies to the '06 GT as well? And when you say "least forgiving" does this means that it has a greater chance of stalling ?

Well I don't know about the GT model. Yes I (more so my wife) found it took a bit to get used and not stall it by the way it grabs etc. Don't be alarmed the clutch is fine its just that having drove many sticks over the years I just felt this one was not one of the "nicer" ones I've driven is all. It's a great car and I'd buy another.
