Finally, a Formal Hello

Hello all!First off, my name is Robert White and I live in South Texas in a small town by the name of Atascosa, just Southwest of San Antonio. I finally purchased my first Vibe about two weeks ago. It is a 2005, rescued from the cooperate rental car world, from California I would guess from the clues I found in the glove box. I have been a Pontiac Nut since I can remember. I am currently very heavy in the Fiero Scene, and have a number of the 2 seaters in my stable. I also own a number of other vehicles, 95 Pontiac Sunfire, 92 Vette, 78 Pontiac Grand Am/El Camino, 77 Pontiac Can Am, etc, etc. So, why the Vibe you ask? Well, ever since Superior Pontiac GMC brought over a Vibe for display at our Annual Fiero Car Show, I was very impressed. I told my wife that day, "someday, I will own one of those!" Well, that someday finally came. You see, I travel about 70 miles per day for work, and like to spread those miles out between a few vehicles. My only problem is I can keep from "personalizing" my vehicles! OK, the Vette is basically stock, probably the most stock vehicle I own, but I keep it as a Friday car. My sunfire is dropped with 17s on it, so the ride is firm, very firm, and besides, she is just topped 100k, so she is due for preffered treatment as well. My Fiero, again has 17s, and basically a low production T-Top model, so I dont want to run the mileage up on her. So, that left me with my Fiero daily driver, which finally lost her clutch. She was modded with 17s, engine upgrades, interior upgrades, etc etc. The big thing was I had a HO Quad 4 just begging to be installed in her, and with the clutch going out, that I what I wanted to do. Well, one thing led to another, career change, school, you name it and the engine swap was put on the proverbial back burner. So, I need another primary driver. Fix up another Fiero, naw...hey, what about getting a Vibe! Heck, I always wanted one, and with gas pushing 3 bucks per gallon, there is the selling point to the better half, even though she pretty much knows by now that when I really want something, it tends to happen. "But dont your Fieros get good mileage? she asks. Yes, I average 25 MPG, but the Vibe can get an additional 7 more mpg! We cant afford another new car payment...I counter with I will get a used one! Well, you guessed it. I finally found my Vibe. It actually came down between the Vibe and a 04 Matrix XR. The matrix had more mileage, and a 6 speed. Man, I dont consider myself as old, but with the traffic I have to deal with, that automatic in the Vibe sure is appealing. Yea, the Matrix had the ground effects, the 4 wheel disk, higher horsepower. But, I had to remind myself what the car would be for. Besides, I really wanted that Vibe Styling. So the Vibe won out, of course. Automatic, the color I wanted, I am a happy camper. I have sworn not to drop it, but that wheel bug is really chewin at me! I just HATE to see those steel wheels through the otherwise cool looking wheel covers. Besides, I have quite a collection of 5x100s from my Fiero collection of Aftermarkets. The only problem is I am really particular about my wheels, so I know it will not be an easy decision of what type of wheels to go with. Rest assured, whatever they are, they will look GOOD! Well, guess that is about it for this introduction. I have probably gone on too long as it is. I have been around enough to know that all you out there place a great deal of emphasis on photos, so as to avoid the ribbing that you have given others, I have included the first ever picture of my latest pride and joy. Hope to get to know yall better and get involved with you group and future get-togethers. LaterzRob

well, since you were looking to get better fuel economy, the 6 spd matrix was an XRS, not just the base one. that requires premium fuel and less mpg. the base auto vibe was definitely fitting your needs (even though, personally i'd have gone for the 6spd- which is why i had a vibe gt). have fun and happy modding! oh ya, welcome!

Here's another "formal welcome" to our little community! I am also impressed with your collection of vehicles as well (you must not have any kids!)I've always wanted a Fiero myself, and had planned the Northstar V8 swap, but alas, I've got three kids (well...actually adults, who've just moved back into the house) I'm putting through college, so have had to put some of my more exspensive hobbies on the "backburner" as well! You're still going to get the ribbing from me about pictures even though you've already posted a pic of your Vibe, but that's because I want to see the others in your stable of toys! Anyways, welcome to the site! A lot of nice and friendly people here! Enjoy!

Thanks to all for your warm welcome, honestly, I expected nothing less. You all seem like a great bunch of folks! There are a bunch of really fine looking Vibes out there, and I hope to get mine in the shame general shape, with the exception of the drop of course. I think I am loosing my will power on the wheels. I am already looking in earnest for a new set of feet for my Vibe. I took this picture during a test fit of some wheels from one of my Fieros, but it is not quite giving me the look I want. I dunno, what do you all think?Ok, I will get a picture posted of a couple of my other rides, one at a time to draw it out a bit. I guess one thing that does surprise me is the amount of folks out there that have an interest in the Fiero! That my friends is encouraging. I have always thought of us Fiero Owners as the Black Sheep of the Pontiac Family. Well, once again, thanks for the welcome, and I will have some future posts with pictures coming soon!

Belated welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! I, too, am among the Fiero admirers, especially after they fixed the suspension for '88, right before GM killed the project!BTW, on a Texas theme, my community theatre group is opening the truly Texas comedy, 'Greater Tuna' by Jaston Howard and Joe Sears this weekend. '88 Fiero, '96 Impala SS, and on and on...

You would have died to work where I did, the Pontiac Corporate Headquarters in Pontiac Mich AND home of the old Fiero assembly plant back in 1997. P cars I believe right? P is in the VIN code? The plant has long been torn down and the HQ is now a GM Powertrain building but I got some great Pontiac swag from when I worked there!

Nascar, since you are local, you will eventually (Im sure) get the opportunity to see the "stable" in person!TrdVibe, I stand corrected on the difference between the XR and XRS, and with the cost of premium, yup, I would say I made the right choice as well! One vehicle in my stable requires premium, and that is enough!BlueCrush, Ballrub, I cannot express how tight your Vibes look! Most excellent. Ballrub, your wheels look great the way they compliment your Vibes color. That is similar to the effect I am looking for on my Vibe, to accent the lower body color. Still looking....Zuben, I will be looking forward to your get together and make every attempt to attendMiVibe-Toolguy, yup, I am envious of your past position and opportunity to see what you saw! Will get more pics up soon!Laterz

Aloha!I am a newbie too; CONGRATULATIONS on your Vibe!! And I'm so happy that a fellow Pontiac enthusiast (ANY PONTIAC) is also here on the board!I have admired them even before getting my first Quad 4 Grand Am. I have been loyal ever since! My favorites are the 60's GTO's. Ahhh...someday when we have a bigger house with a garage with a whole fleet of sweet Pontiacs...Enjoy that cool Vibe of yours!

And I Quote "I have sworn not to drop it, but that wheel bug is really chewin at me!"All you Vibe owners out there are bad, bad people! Through a combined effort, I have now broken my own promise to myself!I am so weak...Vibes just look killer lowered! I thought I was strong, but alas, I was wrong. Next upgrade, Installation of Bluematrixs Hotchis Springs! Thanks, GenVibe, for your support!

As I had stated before, the wheels were really depressing me. So, after much searching, I came up with this match. I must say that I beleive I have dun it again. Just the look I was trying for, complimenting the lower body cladding! So...what do the "peers" think? Dont worry, be honest, I kin take it! Of course, the setting could be better rather than the front yard of weeds that I have here in South Texas. I have a saying, happy grass is brown grass, happy cause I dont have to cut it as often!
