What is the best to use, Syntec or Regular?Can I do more mileage with a synthetic oil or there's no differnce.thanksMike

I run mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic.I don't extend my mileage intervel. I use it because it doesn't break down as quickly under hot temps.

I had been using Mobil1 in both cars for about a year, but just switched to Amsoil. Do some reading - Amsoil is widely regarded as the absolute best. (although Mobil1 isn't "bad" by any means - still beats the tar out of dino oil)

I switched to Castrol Syntec and I like it.

i used mobil 1 5-30 full and it makes eng noisey to me no i run 5-30 blend it is a lots less noisey

Obviously the Syntec is better but I question the incremental benefit vs the additional cost. Someone would have to convince me of that. If you run regular and change your oil every 3-5K and if you're like most people, you'll probably trade the thing long before the engine dies. I never heard of anyone ruining their engine by running regular vs syntec oil.

well...here is what i do...i use mobil-1 5-30 oil and mobil-1 oil filter. i change the filter @7,500 miles and add 1/2 quart, then change the oil and filter again @15,000 miles.the filter is rated to last 7,500 miles (even though mobil will not say this or they won't make money).the oil is rated to last 15,000 miles (again, mobil will not say this or won't make money).amsoil will last 25,000 miles and their filter will last 12,500 miles, but have to change the filter every 6 months and the oil once a year. the reason is that the filter element will break down after 6 months and oil after 1 year.so, if you drive that much, then use amsoil because it will be cheaper.if you don't, then use mobil-1. do the calculations and you will see that you will save money.another benefit is that synthetic will make the engine run better than new (my opinion), but it feels thicker when you drive because there is very little breakdown in oil, if any at all. if you feel that the performance is bogged down using 5-30, then use 0-30 or try 5-20.most importantly, do some research on oil and oil filters because there are many base stocks that different oil companies use. they are all different or they wouldn't have different prices.gl.

why do you say the amsoil sucks, I own 2 vibes both with amsoil, a dodge ram cummins(which has about 50,000 miles on the oil. change the filter every 12000, and have the oil tested. also ran a dodge 2.2 stock car for three years and used 20w50 racing oil from amsoil and the first year at the end the crosshatch from honing was still in the cylinder walls no prob with amsoil superior to mobil 1.

If you plan on doing 5k changes or less, Havoline. Penzoil, Castrol, or Tropartic(Motorcraft) will work as well as synth unless your car is modified or raced. Unless your getting oil analysis and/or changing filters during the OCI, I would limit synth mileage with MI 15k or top Amsoil product to 10K and other non extended drain synth to 7.5k mi. It's not just the base oils but the additives that need to be looked at. Acid neutralizing adds get used up regardless of the oil type. It's one of the reasons that extended drain oils often recommend a filter change along the way. It replenishes these addatives with the make up oil and extends the life.
