Totalling depends on the dollar amount of the damage. If the amount to repair is within a certain percentage (differs by insurance companies) of the value of the car they can opt to total it.Judging by what you have posted though, with structural shifting, it's not going to be cheap. I would say it MAY be totalled. However, with the airbags still undeployed...

I am assuming the headlamps and fog lamps did not make it along with the AC condenser. If the radiator got crushed so did the AC con and the support brackets... Engine mounts may also have broken as they are supposed to. There probably is even more damage, good thing is the bags did not go, that would have jacked the price up even more. At any rate the car may be fixable to a salvage yard but to an insurance company it very well maybe totalled out. Two years old, the residual may be on the higher end thus not completely totalled. Now if it few 4-5 years old, the residual would most definitely be lower...

They have full coverage and a respectical Inchuracne company..so theres no problem there, the inchrance will pay for it..my grandma was driving and she is 70+ and this is her first accedent ever! If they fix if and give it back to her shes getting rid of it anyway. Its funny becasue she traded in a buick century and she got it as her loner car! LOL

Like the above post already said, it's the repair value. Two example:- My old 78 Buick Regal was "totaled" when a van hit the right front fender. Car drives fine. Insurance paid us $2K. Back then I was young, and took the $$$. Car was still "perfect." Any high school body shop class can fix that fender.- I was in a Toyota Sienna van (vanpool) which was rear ended at a red light. People hurt, van looked bad. Cost of repairs? About 20K. Insurance said it's not totaled because it was a new van and worth about 28K.

Well it turns out the car was not totaled, the origional value was 28 K, and since the airbags didnt go off (the cords were pulled out of the sensor, that kinda scares me.)they didnt total the car. And the 20 year old kid that hit them was to fault, a witness confermed that he did go through a red light, no not a yellow-turning-red light a SOLID red light...But there fine and they are getting a new torrent so..it turned out ok in my book

One other factor to consider is if the frame is damaged in anyway they will consider the car "totaled" So $ value is not the only thing considered. This is true for most of the major insurance providers.

the frame is damaged..they said they could fix it but the truth is it will never be the same...and only 9,000 miles on it...shame
