How does the dealer work?

I've never owned a car that has a warranty. The vibe does. There is a ticking from a box on the back side of the throttle body (VSV maybe?) that ticks during idle, and only during idle. I can feel the box vibrate when the ticking happens, that's how I know that this box is the issue. How do I take my car into a dealer? I want to make sure it isn't going to cost me anything. Do I just give them a call? Do they require a CEL to look at it under warranty (there isn't a CEL on)? Will they listen to me if I point them directly to the box or do they have their own crappy troubleshooting they do regardless of what the customer tells them? Thanks.

Just take it over there to the service dept and have them check it out. pretty much everything is free while it's under warranty if you haven't done any major mods that could have caused the issue. Even if they said it's normal or can't "replicate" the sound (which is commonly used) or whatever, it's free!

i went to the dealer about the same thing. dang thing did't do it when i was there. i did talk to a mech there for awhile while we waited to see if we heard something. nothing happened, plus since then i pretty much have stoped hearing it.it only did it if i listened closely during warm up on hot days.

I believe that valve is suppose to tick... lots of us Vibers get that when we put in cold air intakes. Something about the angle it sits at and so on.But if you have a concern with your car the dealership will fix it under warranty providing its a warranty concern. Things like "I have a bad vibration after hitting some pot holes" or "My car has a rattle at 90mph" just don't qualify lol. Its common sense.

I am in the process of taking in my little Vibe. The CEL came on and I took it to Auto Zone to get the code and they said it was something with the Ventalation System (he went into some talk over my head), and said it should be covered under the warranty. So far I haven't even seen a chance in the car, any new sounds, it runs the same.... the only thing I can tell is wrong is there is an annoying little engine light on my dash. I took it up to the dealer today and they said since the car runs fine I have to set up an appointment (much like they do in a hospital.... the more serious get to go first). I will know on Wednesday how "free" this all is.

cel light for a vent system can be as simple as your gas cap is loose.

what was the code, mavrik is right, could be something as simple as a gas cap, or loose vacuum line

VSV - EVAP Solenoid... Pretty much the same thing, most Domestic cars call them EVAP Solenoids... At any rate like others have said normal condition.
