Photoshop experiments w/ cladding

I've been thinking of painting the cladding since I got my Vibe a few weeks ago. Like I've said before my rear bumper must be from an 03-04 b/c it's rough and the rest is smooth. So it's either find a new bumper somewhere or do what I really want to do and save up and get it all painted. My Vibe is Moonstone and I was trying to think of a color that would go good with it. Anyway here are some pics.p.s. thanks to rlfreese for letting me use his pics b/c I'm lazy and don't have a camera yet

This one is done with red just to see what it would look like. I'm probly going with red for the interior color. I think I like black better for the outside

No, It'd be about as extreme as the green. I'll try to do it a little later in the day and post again

my windows are allready 25% all round, that's another reason I really like the black. I think I would need my mirrors and door handles and maybe the side door molding painted to match to really finish it off. the mirrors are allready the shiny black plastic but I don't know if it would match good. The only thing I hate about black is it shows dirt so bad. but then again moonstone is pretty dark to start with

There are a couple ways to do it. The way I use is...1. use the selection tool or quickmask to get what you want selected2. when you have your selection go to channels and click the button at the bottom to save the selection to an alpha channel (doing this makes it alot easier to come back and edit)3. Then I go to Image >> Adjust >> VariationsFrom here you just play with it 'til you get the color you want4. tell it ok or apply and ctrl-d to get rid of the selection5. I always save a .psd file and do my .jpeg from that to preserve the alpha channels and all the layers. I also always keep the original layer in the .psd file.Anyway hope that helps, masking is the part that takes the longest.I'm pretty good with Photoshop so if anyone has any small things they would want done (color, graphics, rims, etc) I would like the challenge one other thing I thought of is I want the top spoiler (maybe mid, too), do you guys think it would look better black (if I paint the cladding black) or Moonstone?

My vote: If you ABSOLUTELY MUST DO IT, then Black. Including the spoiler. However, I prefer the monotone look of your car. It sure looks familiar; did you buy it from another GenViber? I've seen the roll call on the door before.

lol, I wish that was my car. I don't have any pics of mine yet. That Vibe is rlfreese's. He let me use his since I don't have any pics yet, and I've been wondering how it would look.Mine is Moonstone with the unpainted plastic cladding.

check out http://www.good-tutotials.com They have a great wealth of knowledge for all kinds of photoshop stuff. just search for car color change or something of the sort. That will probly help you alot quicker than I could make a tutorial.

just commenting on your question of what spoiler to get... i like them both but for my base vibe im goin to get the mid spoiler soon. I just like that look on the vibe.everyone has their own taste... and thats just mine but if you paint your cladding, paint the mid or upper spoiler to give it that matching colors look!just my $0.02

lol, Yeah, I'm sure you do... I keep on noticing stuff that needs to be painted if I do this. At lunch I realized the plastic piece with "Pontiac" embossed on it would need to be black too. This is getting expensive...

that orange and grey would look good with either black rims with chrome lip or gunmetal rims with chrome lip IMO

How about trying it in a dark blood pearl red. With fender hash marks or racing stripes, to give the hood some color?
