This is a quote I received from
http://www.performanceautomatic.com about their shift kit for the auto Vibe and Matrix.quote:In regards to the Toyota Matrix shift improvement package. This kit iscurrently under development at Performance Automatic Inc. in Gaithersburg,Maryland. Excellent results have been obtained in both ragecyr's andxrmatrix03's Matrix XRs. Firm 1-2 and 2-3 shifts have replaced the softsliding factory shifts. These modificications will compliment any addedengine improvements. The goal is to provide a transmission shift qualitythat will withstand the addition of a turbo or supercharger. Thats the goodnews. The not so good news is that these improvements at this time can onlybe performed at Performance Automatic in their shop. There are currently 3automatic transmissions available for the matrix, with 3 different vavlebodys. So theres 3 different sets of modifications. The valve bodies are theunits that are modified to provide the tire chirping shifts. Until all threetypes of transmissions are modified and tested, no over the counter kit willbe available. A valve body exchange program is being explored but iscurrently not ready. If you would like to have your matrix automatictransmission shift like a pro, Performance Automatic will perform themodification at their shop Monday through Friday 8 to 5. This proceduretakes about 3 hours and costs $269.00 (US) for parts, labor, and fluid.Several questions have come up about this modification that have not beenanswered already, they are: This upgrade is for the 1zz-fe automatic tranny right? Xr/base matrix. Yes How does this affect the torque converter? The torque converter is uneffected by this upgrade. Will i need a tranny fluid cooler? No Will the tranny return to normal smooth shifting once the shift upgrade isremoved? Yes Any way to turn on and turn off the shift package upgrade? No Will this affect tranny life? Yes, this upgrade will extend the life of your transmission.Applications (baring any difficulty of coarse, since only the Matrix XR has been officially tested): Matrix base Matrix XR Matrix XRS Vibe Vibe GT To set up an appointment you can call Performance Automatic at301-963-8078 and speak to Mike or Bill. Performance Automatic is located at 8174 Beechcraft Ave. Gaithersburg MD
20879tcyr@erols.comGot some video footage up of the shift package. The video doesn't do the shift package justice, but i'll give you an idea of the difference.
http://www.o2dazone.com/ragecyr/shift_package/ Please do a save as on the 3 files, and dont download it a million times. Theres an XRS coming on on thursday so i'll take more video footage and see how it all works out. Axles should be fine, its nothing worse than anyone with a manual will ever give it.It sounds like this kit will help the auto trany stand up to the additional torque of forced induction so this is going to be a must do mod for anyone wanting to have a turbo or supercharger install.

Good to finally hear of tranny upgrades. But I was always under the impression that shift kits were harsher on the trans due to harder shifting and quicker power transfer. quote: Excellent results have been obtained in both ragecyr's andxrmatrix03's Matrix XRs. Firm 1-2 and 2-3 shifts have replaced the softsliding factory shifts. These modificications will compliment any addedengine improvements. The goal is to provide a transmission shift quality that will withstand the addition of a turbo or supercharger. Thats the good news. The new supercharger kit is made to reduce boost at shift points to avoid excess stress on the tranny, so how would this set-up work?

damn shame I have the GT with the 6 speed. My wife goes to fredrick all the time and my parents live 10 minutes from gaithersburg. I'd volunteer her car for any 6 speed kits you guys want to try in a heart beat.
