not sure where this would be best posted but, i have an 05 base and since like 3000 miles my mgp has been quite varried and not great. i had my cat replaced around 7000 mi. for a few months i was on a coop job n doin some city driving which is the area between 5k n 7k. but my recent trip/last entry was on the turnpike n i only got 31. wondering if anyone else is having similar issue n lookin for ideas on what is causing itthanks
I also have an 05 base, automatic, with 4500 miles on it.I drive a mixture of city/highway miles, with about 40% highway.I am getting about 25 MPG. It doesn't make much of a difference when I drive hard or easy.I had it in the dealer about 1000 miles ago for another issue, and brought up the issue of the bad cat/poor milage TSB, and they said it was problably due to the winter gas mixture (i live in St. Louis Mo).They did nothing.I am quite dissapointed about the gas milage as it was one of the reasons I picked the Vibe, but overall I am happy with it.
i sure hope so mavrik, but i saw my best milage in the first 3000. i have no clue how i got that 38 mpg around 5000 mi, my driving doesnt varry that much, i know here n there when i'm foolin around n accelerating hard, most of those points actually arent the low ones. i'm around 8100 mi now so. on one of my trips home when i got up to 110 for a few seconds i think that trip ended up as 27mpg n most of that trip i was doin 75-80 too.
you really can't judge mileage for a single tank, since it depends so much on how you top off the tank each time. There is a thread somewhere that says what to check if your mileage is lower than expected, first thing i'd say to check for a car with your # miles would be tire pressure.
In winter you will typically see a pretty good drop in MPG. If you are still getting better than 30 I'd say you are fine....as the others have said you should improve over time
I have almost 5900 on my base '05 automatic and I get around 27 mpg on a mixture of city and highway driving. The best I've gotten has been 30 mpg. Overall it isn't bad mpg and I'm satisfied with my vibe.
My '05 AWD with 4,600 miles has been averaging 27 mpg w/a mix of city & highway. I've had a few tankfulls get me 31+, but those were mostly state highway trips between Frederick & Dulles. Overall, I'm very happy with this mileage for an AWD vehicle with A/T.
My 05 AWD averages 26 mpg since it got cold below 30F. some tanks are real low some are high ( warm up in the weather) My lowest was 23.5 my highest was 31 I now have just over 8k on it. But my mountaineer that I traded in for the vibe drooped to 12 in the winter.
2005 AWD What's your story? It's a wonderful thingMomma always said "Help that is not helpful, is no help at all"
Yesterday I drove 149 miles, all but 2 miles interstate highway. I set the cruise control at 75-78 miles per hour, depending on road traffic. I filled up the tank at the start of the trip, after the engine had warmed up. I made no stops during the trip. My 03 with an automatic and AWD got 27.2 MPG. The DOE sticker said I should get 31 MPG highway. Still, I have no complaints. If I wanted higher mileage I could of slowed down to 70 mph and/or put more air in my tires. The car is extremely stable at highway speed. It is amazing how little vibration the car has with that small 1.8 liter engine.
I hardly think 31mpg is bad milage. I have a 2004 auto base and my last 10 tanks have been:25.8021.2124.4625.1321.2317.6318.4120.5421.3318.51Avg. 21.42 mpgI do mostly city drive but I think this is extremely low. Brought it into the dealer 3 times over the last few months and they say everything is fine. Had my Cat replaced 3 tanks ago and as u can see not much better milage.

Quote, originally posted by renik »I hardly think 31mpg is bad milage. i don't think 31 mpg is bad at all. those are the numbers i usually see when i drive to VA. it's odd, but while i'm there i manage around 32-34. here in NY, i mange 27 averagely. almost all being city miles.VA - 1. NY - 0.
well here is as good a place as any to share my updated logsome notes the 41 reading is skewed by a mis fill as is the 20 reading... all the rest are true readings
now that its winter, i swear my mileage dropped in half. i hit half a tank left and had maybe 100-120 miles traveled cold weather is horried for this engine unless you race
Just wondering how many rpms should a base automatic be at a 55-70 mph? I'm usually at about 2800 to 2900 which may be why I don't get the mpg I thought I'd get (between 25-27 for suburban Chicago driving). Best for everyday driving I've gotten is 32 mpg.
