Is it me? Or did everyone know about all of the Toyota parts one the VIBE? I didn't know until I popped the hood one night, and saw so many...right do to the fuses used. LOL, I mean...what is that about?

Yes, the Vibe is a twin of the Matrix. And both are nothing more than a Toyota Corolla with a different body. Exactly like the 1986-88 Chevy Nova and the Geo Prizm were just rebadged Toyota Corollas.

The Toyota parts bin facts were known to the press for over a year. This article titled Vibe vs Matrix:Is there really any difference? http://www.canadiandriver.com/previews/ ... matrix.htm is dated December 11, 2001 .This article on the Vibe First Drive http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/03vibe.htm is Dated Jan 1, 2002 .I take it your salesperson didn't take you for an underhood tour...Frankly this was a big factor in my decision. I have many happy Toyota driving buddies.

Frankly, that's the only reason I bought this car. It's basically a Toyota for all intents and purposes. My opinion only, but the only American cars I would buy are the Corvette, full-size trucks, and maybe the Viper.

I knew it. This is about as far Japanese as I want to go at the moment(Except for Anime. Yes, thats right, Anime. ) LoL I've been a GM man since my first car, and never really cared for others. I figured, I'll give a Japanese Pontiac a chance, to see if it can hold up to my driving as my GM cars have.

quote:Frankly, that's the only reason I bought this car. That was about 75% of my decision for the Vibe as well. I wanted a new car that was different, economical, practical, reliable, and fun to drive. The Vibe fit this perfectly.I personally would not buy a first-generation pure domestic vehicle due to quality issues you always seem to hear about when they are first released. I figured I had a huge advantage with the Vibe being Toyota and they pretty much had a complete influence in the vehicle. So far everything is great and I am happy about my decision.

Hey DopeVibeGT I am there with you on the Anime I have owned a couple of domestic and a couple of foreign cars. Its funny my Prizm didn't give me any problems and my Camry is the best. Oh yeah my Trooper was awesome too. My Tracker is different story. But I love my Pseudo-American Car to death. The Japanese do it right the first time.

Knowing that the Vibe was made jointly with Toyota is one of the main reasons I bought it. Being a previous owner of a 93 GEO Prizm, which by the way was a great car, I figured the Vibe would be excellent also.Of course the Vibe is fun to drive, practical and economical.Base Vibe, (Salsa, Power, Moon and Tunes, Cargo Box, Aftermarket alloys

I've never owned a japanese vehicle. LoL My grand am has served me perfectly. After 160K miles (258K KMs), I've had to replace the tranny (Junky 3 speed tranny. ), and the car still runs like new.I had a feeling there were other Anime fans on here.

There aren't many "pure" cars out there: o "America's Only True Sportscar" (Corvette) has (or recently had) Japanese wheels, Australian brakes, German fuel injectors, South American balsa wood floor boards...o BMW uses a GM-built 5 speed automatic that The General doesn't install in any of its own cars.o The Matrix is made only in Canada.o Canadian Cavaliers all come from Mexico.o The Ferrari Grand Prix team is run by a Frenchman.-The list goes on...

One of my easiest ways I decided to go for this car besides the looks is that the engine is toyota. I have had three american vehicles and they have all had problems. I learned my lesson many times over. This car is great!

The Toyota connection wasn't my main reason to buy the Vibe, but it sure was strong at about the third thing on my list. Three previous American vehicles, two were awful from a reliability standpoint, the third (Saturn) was really good. The Vibe is even better (so far). So, in a decade or so when it's time to buy another new car, Saturn and Toyota will be at the top of my list.PS: Why not a Saturn this time? Because the GM master card rebate was too strong of a bribe and I couldn't use it on an Ion.

Lucky for you. Everything I've read on the Ion is that it's pretty crappy overall.Another thing, I find it mildly amusing that anyone would consider an American 4-banger that revs to 8200rpm and makes 100hp/liter. I knew it wasn't American, that's why I bought it. The Big 3 make some good motors, but they don't invest enough into high compression high hp/lt ratios enough for me to trust the reliability and durability of one. Since I know there's a Toyota heart beating under my hood, I have no qualms about running my car to the rev limiter whenever I get the opportunity.

Well I can't blame the Tracker because MidKnight has been great. I was hit from behind by a senile lady and had a lot of trouble since. Leaks and rear axle trouble plus the service at the dealership is poopy. They dont like men coming in and asking questions I guess, but I love Trackers especially offroading.
