Upgraded stereo option.... (worth it?)

In your opinion.... is the 7 speaker stereo option worth it? I'm looking at getting a Matrix or Vibe and am trying to keep the monthly payments down. If I could skip on this option and maybe upgrade the head unit and the factory speakers (put components up front and better rear ones) at some point to have a decent system. Has anyone gotten the 4 speaker system and then just upgraded the h/u and speakers? Also, would it be worth it getting the factory alarm or skipping on it and getting an aftermarket one? Would it be cheaper going aftermarket?

Welcome to genvibe.Mine has the 6 speakers and an amp, from before they offered the subwoofer, and I don' tknow if I would have paid extra for it but I needed to buy and was limited to what was in dealer stock. There is some improvement over the basic sound system, but the basic one still sounds pretty good to me, and since I don't know what it costs, I can't say of it's really worth it. Nice to have it come pre-installed and covered under warranty.I know squat about alarm systems, but if you get the factory alarm it is covered under warranty, and you'd avoid any pissing contests between the dealer and the alarm installer if something starts to act up.It's tough to spec out the options, I always suffer feature creep. "I'd like this option, and compared to what I'm already going to spend it doesn't seem like that much more" Same problem with buying a computer But there's a strong industry for aftermarket sound and alarm systems. However, if you want ABS, or a sunroof, or power windows/locks, then I think you'd be better off getting those things from the factory. It's also tough to compare prices between similarly equipped Matrixes and Vibes, since both offer options in different packages, it's hard to get exactly the same option combination in both to compare price.

the factory alrm isn't bad. it has a motion sensor. most oem alrms i know of donn't. if you get the vibe, you can get the remote starter. i think it's tied to the stock alarm. if you want ultimate security. go after market, and get a 2 way FM alarm. but otherwise it's comparable to non two way alrms. the sound system, i think it's worth if you don't plan on adding more sound later. the tweeters are great and come with the 7 speaker system. i went with the moons and tunes. then the sunroof and premium sound were tied together. not sure about now. if you want sunroof... look that up. plus the premium sound has a mp3 player. which is a major reason to upgrade sound. i like the moons and tunes, only reason i went after market, was that the 04 didn't have the rear subwoofer. it's now included. so basically i paid for the 6 speaker system and then i still went with an aftermarket radio..

to remain unbias, the matrix has a engine imobilizer. which is a plus. most insurance co. will give you a discount for those.
