Hello everyone. Time/need to do a Transmission Service 60,000. I called the dealer and they are going to rape me for $33.57 for a gasket and $93.64 for the filter that I don't need to buy. Went to Toyota and they have no clue about the Vibe being a Toyota trans/motor and could not find a gasket for this Vibe/Toyota trans. I like it when you go to the Pontiac dealer and they will talk about the motor and trans being Toyota. Pontiac tells me that they be 3 gaskets for this year Vibe and they tell me they don't know what one I need, but yet it will cost me $33.57 and don't even have them in stock. Dealer tells me they have NEVER sold or have done any service on the Vibe trans. I will not pay some D### head $120 plus the cost of the filter and gasket to change the fluid in this trans. As any shops I go to tells me that it be a dealer parts and I need to buy the parts and then they will do the work for the $120. NOT! I think people needs to get together and put a stop to these dealers trying to RAPE people over parts. It's bad enough to have to pay what we pay for cars, then just get RAPED over parts. We could stop this if we wanted to. Now back on line as to what I need to know...... Any one have a part number from Toyota for the gasket? Maybe a link to a parts house to buy the gasket? I can do the work my self, just need the gasket. I need to get this done by the end of next week as I an going to put about 9,000 + miles on the car in the next month. Thanks for any info for this. Stone.

There should only be two automatic transmission options for a Vibe, but there are three for a Matrix. I suggest if you want to drop the pan, go to a Toyota dealer and ask them for a gasket for a Matrix or Matrix XR, FWD auto tranny. SOmetimes they want a VIN number, I guess their computer ystem can cross reference a VIN tothe appropriate part. In cases like that, I sometimes will look on ebay for a comparable model and use that VIN at the dealer.I don't have an auto tranny, but you are probably about due for a fluid change. Some people here have already had that done, but I can't rememberr if they said what they paid for the service.

I just got the flush done. I didn't worry about the sreen, just had them cleanit out by hand and reintall. It took like 10qts' to flush out the old crap, though. Runs pretty good for the beating I give it all the time.

Go for a flush, drain and fill only changes part of the fluid and the old dirty stuff mixes with the new.

I've been looking up information about this transmission... Just 'cause I love this wonderful little gearbox sooo much... heh Time and time again we keep running into the same problem finding normal routine maintenance parts, i.e. gaskets and such and Toyota has no clue how to provide us parts for their own engineering. Can we help them buy a clue?GM's RPO for one of them that our cars can have, MU4 (which is what is on mine) and upon googling, I found this showing A246-E. Upon subsequent googling of A246-E (or A246E) that is certainly pointing towards the fact that it could be Toyota's name for one of these transmissions, and I found a link to some Matrix site that I didn't know existed and it went straight to a PDF of the service manual that shows 18 bolts in the pan... Another indication of what type of automatic transmission it may have and 18 bolts equates to an MU4 unit as Nick pointed out in that thread. So am I on the right track to say that if your service parts identification label in the glove box shows MU4 then maybe if you absolutely had to, one could go to Toyota and ask for stuff for something same year, possibly Matrix or whatever, and advise those people that this is a A246E? I dunno if that will help or even be accurate but if we could figure out what Toyota called these things, we would probably have a LOT less of a headache trying to get anything accomplished when we go to them for parts/etc.I don't know if any of the A246E stuff has been addressed before, I just ran across it and thought I would bring it up while I was thinkin' about it.
